Sounds like dropsy them mate if the scales are sticking out, fan tails should be fat but the scales should be flat on the body as per your other fish. Might be able to get something from your local petshop to cure it, if you've caught it soon enough. When carrying out the medication remember to isolate the fish from its buddy.

John.

LOL - a gentle squeeze will ease the blockage.

Hmmm.... is the fish showing any other signs of distress, listlessness etc?

Do the eyes look ok, clear and not bulging or sunken?

If it is an internal bacterial infection the only thing that will really do any good is antibiotics such as maracyn II for gram negative bacteria. It will most likely need to be administered orally, e.g. on food for it to reach the infection in adequate concentration.

The fish seems more active than normal, actually. Eyes look pretty normal.

Fish can be very resilient creatures, so give him some time I guess and see how he does!

Nope -- changed my mind. They're bulging out. Sorry, previous post was really from memory. I've had a proper look now, and they're bulging.

Could be threes things

1. Dropsy
2. Tumor
3. Egg-Bound

try http://www.koicarp.net. Then click on Medications and then KoiVet, then Symptons and treatments

1st and 3rd are treatable, 2nd not.

Good luck
