Obvious solution - big boot/performance, but I'd be suprised if his boss/missus would let him........now that he's FAMILY MAN
Let's see if we can goad him into saying something

The fans will be running cos it thinks the car is hot so maybe the thermostat that controls them has gone and the failsafe is to have the fans running all the time than not at all, or the temp sender has gone , does the temp gauge go to normal and stay there during driving.
dogpole around 1450 - 1455 ish.
Are all the lincoln lot going in convoy or are we going to free run there.

soakden, your always having probs near a meet. friggin things, does the engine seem to be OK, not running lumpy or anything like running on 3 cylinders, nip to a garage tomorrow and see if they'll do a quick compression check for you, should clear up if the problem is serious or not. otherwise as barmyclown says it could be something simple like that. when u fire the motor up from cold do the fans come straight on? or does it wait to get up to temperature before coming on? water pump belt OK? (I seem to remember you had a problem with the pulleys on the skeggy meet not so long ago?)

Soakden,
Mine did a similar thing when the check light came on,i think you need to reset the ecu and get a fault code for the sensor thats gone **** up,thats what i did and all was well when i changed ropey sensor.

yes the fans start as soon as u start the engine from cold apart from that all seems ok ... is chandlers of lincoln the only place nearby that will check the ecu or has another garage got the capability round here ( dont realy wanna drive it very far till i know)

if the fans come on as soon as you start the engine it signals an electrical fault rather than mechanical so thats good news I suppose not sure on other garages capablilties to check the ECU butyou dont get if u dont ask Id say something like the temp sensor has gone and is constantly bridged, maybe the wires are shorting out which isnt a good thing, obviously cheap to repair but if theyre shorting out the rad fan then potentiolly it could burn out. should be OK though saying that. sorry I cant be off more help

the instructions for an ecu reset are here if you've not done one before:
http://www.saxonfields.freeserve.co....iag%20Page.htm
the 2 connectors are under the steering column, if you get your head right under there, you'll see them with a torch.
