350 Z Opinions!
#61
Very old thread reborn I know but I thought I would ask as some time has passed and opinions might have changed a little or moved on.
I am considering getting a 350Z and a little unsure. We have a 03 Scooby WRX with some subtle mods so nice and fast as well as practical. My daily is an 05 Civic Type R which is great, especially for handling but does feel a tad slow and to be honest, I am getting a bit sick of the hot hatch image (getting old and sensible now I am 43) and needing to thrash it all the time to get anything out of it. I am finding, I am enjoying the Scooby more as I can cruise along happily but when I needed, I have the power to boot it. The Honda needs working at all the time and just doesn't cruise no well.
Would it be a bit of a disappointment going from a Civic Type R to a 350z and am I going to think its slow and boring? I know the handling is going to be more laid back rather than pointy and sharp but I don't want something that feels a bit lifeless and bland. On the other hand I am looking for something that's more civilised as I am doing around 14k a year with my new job.
Other cars I am considering are Blobeye Scooby STi, Honda S2000 as well as the Nissan 350Z.
Any thought or opinions appreciated.

My mate has had his 03 350Z for over a year now, loved it at first but in the recent 8 months everything seems to be going wrong with it, mainly the wiring of the car!

I currently have a 350z and was just not feeling the "love" for the car. Mainly used for commuting, had a few minor issues and the suspension is very jittery!! I also find that the performance is lacking (but I have come from 470bhp TT supra, 390bhp bugeye STI and the current car is a 600bhp GTR), so that may just be perspective or the way the power is delivered. The downside is that more power is hard to achieve on the NA engine. No noise.... outside the car could be a fiesta, the exhaust is just too quiet.
I was ready to sell after 5 months.........
Then I went a drift day at Brands Hatch and it feels like that is what 350z were designed for!!! Standard power, coilovers, exhaust and wheels and the car was transformed!!!
So busy collecting some parts for the car:-
-370z Akebono brakes
-BC coilovers
-GTR rear exhaust section can be modded to fit
-wheels - struggling to find a decent set
Really hoping that these items will fix some of the problems I have with the car and I will enjoy it more in the future.....

=grahamc;11366184]Have tested a S2000, was not impressed with the space inside - felt very snug and claustrophobic (and I am not big 5'10, 75kgs) and the constant need to rev the hell out of it got annoying.
If I had my time again i'd have one of those in the garage instead of my STI Type r.

Weird, i'm an inch taller and 5kg more (all muscle of course ) and think it's fine, but the handling is sublime, yes you do have to work it a bit when pushing on but there is enough power there under normal driving. The engines are forged as standard with 500bhp capability which should be an absolute hoon to drive, if the tuning bug bites not too difficult to get there for £5/6k you could have one hell of a track machine with 450 ponies on the rear wheels.

Without going FI what can be done to an S2000 to improve performance? Or is it pretty much the same as the Zs engine, where 2k gets you next to nothing, but going FI makes huge gains.
5-6k would be a supercharger on the Z or a LS engine and with more money it would be a LS engine and a supercharger which means you get something like this:
