Yes if OS X has drivers. Why would you want to do this with a G5 though when you already have a video card which will do mirroring and spanning? The "digital" monitor ports on Apple graphics cards (ADC and DVI) also carry regular VGA so you could have two CRTs hooked up to the one card if you wanted too. DVI/ADC to VGA adaptors are around £25 each.
Plus you can't get Quartz Extreme acceleration using a PCI card unless you use a hack. Running QE over PCI also heavily saturates the PCI bus making it all much slower for your other PCI devices (if you have any)

On the subject of PowerBook G5's....
Whilst the move to single channel DDR and a 1/3 clocked FSB are positive pointers to what will eventually become the PowerBook G5 platform, in the immediate term the 2Ghz DDR enabled dual-core G4 from Freescale (formerly Motorola SPS) is more a likely contender for the next PB rev.
The PowerBook could then go G5 the following year, with the work done on the chipset to support the new G4 gradually making its way into the iBook and eMac.
More details on the next G4 are to be announced at the Microprocessor Forum in October which bodes well for a possible MWSF introduction in early January.
At the moment, it seems that the G4 will continue to serve as Apple's Pentium-M type solution for a while yet.

Because I don't have one yet so didn't know it was possible, I like having two screens but being a soon-to-be-out-of-work-cos-I-resigned-contractor-wannabe with no cash I don't want splash out too much cash yet.

I have been using Macs since the Plus/Classic/SE/SE30 days...
You don't need to convert me, I have acquired so many old macs over time, finally managed to chuck the buggers out! (ok, so still got an lc475, couple of quadras, a B&W g3 and god knows what else lurking around....
Admitedly I have priced up the machines numberous times but not gone into the detailed spec.....
I have been using Macs since the Plus/Classic/SE/SE30 days...

To drag the thread further off topic, I've only just chucked out a working 6100/66 (with PC coprocessor card) and a 7100/90 which didn't even have any RAM!
The "lets price up something at the Apple Store game" is one I often play during long nights at work. Unfortunately it usually ends up with me buying something

It looks like a big ipod, it’s a great concept, I was a bit suspect at first glance, but at closer inspection it’s genius. It’s not as expandable and less capable than a tower for out right performance, but if you look at the trade off, you have to fork out a small fortune for a standalone widescreen apple widescreen monitor for a G5 tower, and the towers a huge lump, takes up loads of space (not that I wouldnt like one
). I think G5 Imac rocks, it’s so clean and simple, if you had Bluetooth keyboard it would basically only have the power cable neatly going out the back. You can't expand it for sure, but if it was well spec'd you wouldn't really need too...But why do they insist on being so tight with Ram, 256mb is not enough, 512mb is bare min for my needs, on the apple website upgrading to 2gigs of ram is £750 :O I am getting a G4 tower, but that’s because I am relatively poor at the moment, but if cash was not an issue I would get one of these for sure.
But like people say, hopefully this will make demand go through the roof, and that will drive competition with suppliers and hopefully drive prices a bit to the south - they're a clever bunch at Apple though, I doubt it's ever going to be a cheap way to compute..

If you look on the distributors and major suppliers websites, they still shipping, but it aint' cheaper..
You might be able to get second hand cheaper, but always a risk buying second hand computers
