00MY V Reg Prodrive Imprezza
Hello Richard,
Thanks for that info I am learning something new about the Scooby everyday. It is almost certainly euro car UK spec. I can see why PPP is taken off car before sold on as it hikes the insurance up a fair bit. Out of intrest where are you located, I assume you car has the PPP also?

The alarm strongly suggests that the car has got here by some non-standard route, but as long as it's Euro spec (not JDM) you're home and dry. Jap imports often have problems because they are mapped to run on 100RON fuel and the ECU can't cope.
If the engine upgrade is a pukka Prodrive Power Pack, there should be a certificate with it bearing your registration number. However, PPPs are often taken off and sold on (mine was). If the car has blue Prodrive piping under the intercooler, and Prodrive stamped on the back-box, it's almost certainly pukka.
PPP cars will run safely on normal unleaded, but go much better on Super
Classic-shape cars are also faster than the new-shape becuase they are a lot lighter - the equivalent of three adult passengers
Enjoy
Richard.

Hi Moray,
Richard (Hoppy) is right... The MY00 PPP comes with a normal Subaru air filter, but this can be inexpensively upgraded to a Subaru STi filter (about 40-50 quid or so) which definitely (but marginally) improves pick-up time and breathing higher up the rev range.
The important thing is to make sure it doesn't have a different aftermarket one such as ITG or Unifilter (in fact any brand that uses oil-based filters, instead of a dry one like the Subaru ones) as the oil vapour from these kills the MAF sensor after a while. Then the engine goes boom
.
Comparison with STi8 was done on the German Autobahn, on the way to last year's WRC in Germany, with the original PPP engine (50000 miles); from 50mph to about 120+mph I was marginally gaining! But he had more stuff in his car than I did. Not so surprising really though as mine has a better torque spread and similar power to weight ratio (255bhp, 1300kg; his 263bhp, 1400kg, with our stuff in and approximately
).
Have fun with the car!
Richard

Moray, I'm in the East Midlands but my PPP is long gone.
Be warned, mate - Scooby's are like a drug and ScoobyNet is your pusher. I've spent more on mods to my car than I paid for it in the first place, and I've got plenty more ideas to keep me pennyless for another year or two yet
You might be able to stay clean if you keep out of the Technical forums here. But once you get into the Drivetrain section and find yourself checking your credit card limit, then you're on the slippery slope down to the bottomless pit
But hey, you'll be in great company!
Are you married, by any chance? Try not to trouble her pretty little head with any unnecessary information. It's for her own good, you know

Excellent thanks for the info I will change filter asap if not STI one. Does it have any serial number on anything saying if it is STI one? Yes, I looked at some rolling road Torque curves. The PPP certainly increases torque in low/mid range. I see you are a F1 Development Engineer, intresting job what team or company are you working for?

Contentious?
Classic = 1235Kg
Bug-eye = 1385Kg
That's 150Kg more, which is 12% or 330lbs, which is 24 stone, which is three fit birds. Which is all very well, but not ALL the time
STi is heavier still, but more powerful. Looked at another way, the new-shape cars need between 30-50bhp more to stay level on bhp-per-ton.
Richard.

Thanks mate this site is really useful. Amazed at the help and knowledge everyone has. Not use to this on the net, I better sit down. From what I can see there is not much in it performance wise between any of the scoobies that are not heavily modified. Isnt it the driver that makes the difference anyway especially on a twisty road.

Look slike the group buy over for now will need to wait till next time. Got the car Sunday and first impressions are amazing. Do you run your scooby on Unleaded 95 RON or 97RON? I read the PPP Website and it recommends not running it on 95RON for extended periods of time?

Yep, definitely best on at least Super Unleaded. VPower nicer

The STi filter has STi plastered over the filter itself so it's easy to see
. Not sure about the original Subaru part numbers, but I think it should say on the side, or on the rubber seal somewhere, that it's Subaru. The main thing is that the filter should be a folded card that is dry, not a wet sponge type.
About me? Working for a company in Germany (Infineon Technologies) but closely with the Ferrari F1 team; we're designing all the electronic black boxes for next year's F1 car
.
Welcome to the fold!
Cheers

Hello Richard,
Thanks for the info, never heard of Vpower is that a German thing like Optimax in UK? I got the car on Sunday, so I can see what you mean about the addictive burble. Sounds like a very powerful VW Beetle engine LOL. It is the first car I have ever owned that makes you feel as if you are very planted. Feels very solid. The car is in quite good condition. There is rust starting in engine bay on cooling fan cowl and underneath on heat sheilds for manifold downpipe area, I assume thats not unusual. Also the alloys are starting to show signs of bubbling under alloy coating, need to nip that in bud, any ideas?
I am thinking about an oil change, just out of habit when getting a new car. I own a colt mitsubishi and its done 147 000 miles and still going. I have now kept it as run around but the engine is still perfect and starts first time everytime. I use RS Castrol 0-40 in colt but not sure what to put in scooby. Ive read lots of oil threads on here. I know the difference between good and bad oil so I suppose I should just find out what dealer put in it and stick with that maybe. I assume doing an oil change is same as any car, nothing specific on Scooby? Anyway job sounds intresting, im a software engineer and its boring
Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Moray
