Well, the same can be said for anywhere in the modern world.

What I refer to is the attitude and general way of life here, it is far from European. The Chav, don't give a f$ck type attitude is becoming more and more prevalent.

All the more opportunity for you to make your fortune then?

Easy to moan - much tougher to get out there and fight!

Not moaning, just putting in my tu-pence worth into the conversation.

I find that people with lower standards than my own tend to accept the country as a great place to live. England is a 'good' place to live but Brits seem to have tunnel vision and think that we are superior and more developed than anywhere else.

Wrong.

This type of thread has been repeated alot now. Everytime with a poll, everytime with similar results.

I think it's a simple case of (levels of...) standards and education - and by that I don't necessarily mean education in terms of academics.

Switzerland is a great country in many ways, but the Germanic nature of it (unless it’s specifically permitted, then assume it’s forbidden) is directly opposite to a British mentality.

Australians – well, have you ever noticed how many Aussies and Kiwis there are over in the UK. Is it because Australia’s awful? No, more that they want to see a different culture, or at least some culture.

If you’ve ever tried to operate a business in Spain or Italy, you’ll know just how horrendously difficult it is, and don’t even get me started on Belgium’s social security system and its associated costs.

In short, nowhere is perfect.

Things about Britain I love
Walking in Skye. Cycling in North Yorkshire. Cultural variety. Changeable weather. The stubborn independence of the British psyche. Whisky. The NHS (seriously). Our university system. Low taxes (just look at mainland Europe). Minimal gun crime. Architecture. The criminal justice system (not perfect, but very good nonetheless).

Things about Britain I hate
The Daily Mail. Reality TV. Xenophobes. Racists. The determination to do ourselves down. The deep-seated belief that we’re all hard done by, that all politicians (actually, EVERYONE) are evil spongers. The scrounger mentality. Unthinking ill-educated underachievers spawning unwanted children and demanding support (not confined to the UK, I'll admit)
