Just fitted the gauge and oil pressure sensor.. waiting on adaptor before fitting oil temp probe (currently measuring air intake temp )

Couple of pointers.. make sure you fit the connector so the yellow lines line up on the sensor.. also you need to position the sensor so the plug clears the alternator.
You can do as I did and pull the plug out of it's cover and turn by 90º to clear the alternator.

Leave the adaptor for the original sensor in (14mm spanner to hold it) and undo the OE sensor with 23mm socket/spanner.. then use thread lock, or pfse tape or similar on the new sensors thread before fitting..

Very happy with it

Oil pressure looks good although only idled so far.

I have some pictures if anyone wants some more help.. alternator comes off easy enough

Install info for oil pressure and oil temp sensors welcomed, I got the dual gauge .. when it comes! Do I need any other adaptors to fit these sensors, and do you have the part nos. ?

Neil,

If you want to remove the OE oil pressure sensor (not much point keeping it as the SPA has a low warning) then you need no adaptor for the oil pressure.

With regard to the oil temp you ideally need something like
ADAPTOR M18*1.5 to 1/8NPT LMA067 £3.70
from www.lemansmotorsport.co.uk which you screw into the bung above number 3 cylinder and then the temp sensor into that..

I am waiting for my father in-law to return from his holiday to see if he can machine one.. if so might be able to get more than one made.. not sure on his time and the materials though.

either that or you need to drill and tap the sump plug.

no.. the sensor just earths out when the pressure drops below about 1bar I think it is.. so with the single spade connector removed and cable tied up out the way the light on the dash doesn't come on at all.

I am considering using the OE light on the dash as an external warning light from the SPA gauge but it needs to be below 100ma draw and I believe the OE light is a small bulb.. so might need to replace it with an LED and a diode.. this is mentioned in the SPA manual.

Simon,

You could use a relay triggered from the SPA to switch the OE dash light.

Don't know if this would be less hassle than changing the OE bulb.

If you choose a 12VDC relay with a coil of no more than 120ohms then it shouldn't draw any more than 100ma.

Sounds good Bogie.. although it is on a long list of jobs that need doing on the car.. and it is at the bottom to be honest as the SPA has a warning light anyway..

It is a coke bottle.. diet coke bottle

£100 for a catch can or a free coke bottle.. hmmmm.... it was suppose to be temporary but gets such a reaction it has stayed.. saves cleaning too.. just fit a new one.. lol

SPA Oil Pressure sensor fitment

Remove alternator belt shield..
Remove 10mm bolt and loosen the 12mm alternator long bolt on the right hand side.
Removed alternator belt..
Loosen 10mm bolt in the front left to allow the alternator to slide up and down loosen the long vertical bolt on the left which screws the alternator downwards to allow the belt to come off.

Remove alternator..
3 14mm bolts securing the alternator bracket to the block.
Fully undo the 10mm bolt that secures the adjustment of the alternator belt.


Remove the original oil pressure sensor..
Use a 14mm spanner to hold the adaptor between block and sensor and use a 23mm spanner to unwind the original sensor.


Use some pfte tape or plumbers paste to seal the new sensor in


Screw in new sensor.

Fit electrical connection which is a complete pain to get through the bulk head as it has a large square connector on it, tempted to cut the wire and feed it through but resisted.
Make sure the yellow line lines up on the connector and sensor..
You need the sensor connector to run from radiator to windscreen orientation otherwise the alternator will not clear it.
You can carefully push the wire and pull on the internal part of the connector and then rotate it to get the connector pointing the correct way, just then make sure you know which way you turned it so you know which way to now put the yellow line etc…
Refit alternator..


Run cable around engine bay with cable ties


Wire up the gauge.
