yeah agree with the above. They dont know the rules as they are new. Its a fine line between letting them getting away with it for a bit but not letting them think they own the place & can do what they like. If its a small close community they need to blend in with the flow of life there not try and change it...

 

I've done plenty of house building work in my years and I will NEVER do any noisy work after 8 pm. After 11pm is just stupid. It may have been a one off. Best thing is to have a polite word about the noise but not the vehicle issue.

 

I would be pretty mad if some chav parked their eyesore of a truck outside my house. Once again I would doubt that there is a law against minor anti-social behaviour, so the only thing to do is for your mum to ask politely and try to get them to see her [valid] point of view and eventually grow a thick skin and ignore them if they refuse to cooperate.

Dimensions
Cars may tow a trailer with a maximum
body length of 7 metres (excluding drawbar)
and a maximum width of 2.3 metres.
Maximum overall length (car plus caravan) is
18 metres. A vehicle with a maximum gross
weight of 3500 kg or more is required if you
wish to tow in excess of this, and even the
largest European 4x4s are significantly
lighter than this.

Parking
It is an offence to leave a vehicle or outfit
where it may cause an obstruction. A trailer
separated from the towing vehicle must be
securely braked or chocked to prevent
movement. After dark, a trailer parked on a
road must be illuminated, which normally
means keeping the towing vehicle attached to
a power supply. Lay-bys form part of the
highway, so no overnight stopping. Observe
local by-laws, which may prevent the parking
of caravans in street bays. It is an offence to
drive more than 15 yards off the road without
authority in both urban and rural areas.
Trailer caravans are not permitted to stop at
parking meters.

If this applies to caravans, i assume trailers would be covered too.

 

I guess that these people are here to stay? So it is important not to get aggressive early on, bad neighbours can be a real pain and make life hell. Its perhaps best to try the friendly approaches first.
Sounds as though this could be difficult, the noise could be a problem but a quiet word from your Mum or you could help with that one. I know going to the Council can put peoples backs up and they will know who has reported them.

I do hope she gets it all resolved, please let us know what transpires.

They sound like really common scum. It is unlikely they'll become considerate neighbours anytime this century. Feel sorry for your mother, she'll either have to put up with their nasty commercial vehicle or move house I am afraid.

My aim in life is to not have neighbours full stop, or enough land to make them an irrelevance - even decent neighbours are an intrusion in the final analysis.
