now i have never heard or seen any scot getting abuse or beaten up for wearing a scotland shirt in england. i cannot think of anywhere in england where a scottish shirt would provoke this kind of aggresion.

There will always be a number of narrow-minded individuals who seek pleasure in other's misfortune. In thise case, they have displayed their racist/biogted/call-it-what-you-like nature by saying things like:
It's all because the commentators are so arrogant that we hate your whole nation
How mature...
At the end of the day, if you hate English people for no better reason than from what you think a commentator means when he says "England are sure to win this" then you're a bit ignorant really. Count yourselves lucky that you don't have a REAL reason to hate your neighbouring country - move to the middle east and see how quickly you realise that the English aren't so bad afterall...
At the end of the day, it makes me smile when I hear/see someone saying/typing English-hating comments - it really does show the pathetic narrow-mindedness of those particular individuals. We all know that you've no GOOD reason to say those things - so it must be jealously, so I'm very flattered. Thank you!!!

If there was a time for a wind up, this isn't it, grow up and stop embarrasing the rest of your nation with this childish rubbish.
Ok, we played bad, but they didn't play well enough to win.

You're in Good Company though Ian Wright said " Portugal won't win Euro 2004 as they aren't good enough but we could have as we are good enough"......not sure of the logic but there you go.

My problem is English commentators and English people who have this superiority complex and think its their God given right to be the best. Not all English are like this but they are just tarred with the same brush. The same as a Scot hates english so all scots hate english attitudes. Each country is as bad as each other in this respect, but dont think for one minute that all scots hate the english and no english hate the scots.

Put your Scottish newspaper down and go and meet a few of them. You might be surprised...

Terrys arm was over the keeper stopping him from reaching the ball, it was a direct infringement, and I really am keeping an open mind over this.

[QUOTE=TelBoy]Just not true. *Massive* over-generalisation.

The same can also be said of the Scots. We have no statistics here so really the arguement is irrelevant isnt it ?

Unfortunately, in the cold light of day, i think you're right. Most referees in the Premiership would probably have disallowed it.

Its a 50/50 decision, in any European game its likely that would be given as a free kick. In the Premiership you might get away with it more often but bottom line is physical contact with a keeper 95% of the time goes against the attacker.

Indeed. Perhaps the best guide will be the next time Scotland are eliminated from a football or similar tournament. If you notice a *real* vein of contempt towards the Scots from the English, please let me know. Cheers.

With the looks and attitudes on the faces of the Portugese players I imagine if that was anything to go on, their commentators were probably worse than ours.
