I think Buzz is getting a little confused. I don't belive you thought the thread to anti-cat otherwise you would have no doubt locked the thread and not appealed for its re-opening.

I have never given it any thought, I have more important things to think about, than worrying how 'unknown' non-cat owners can use preventative measures to keep cats away. I have always lived in a rural area with plenty of fields, where cats aren't a problem to neighboursI haven't a clue
This is where I have a slight difference of opion with you. The "fact" that you have never given this (or possibly other things) any thought, doesn't mean that the issue does not exist for some people.

A rural area is no guarentee that cats will not enter people's gardens and cause a problem. I live between Lougborough and Quorn, in "hunting" country. We have a cemetary behind us, then fields. A few hundred yards to the side we have open fields. My parents live even further out in to the country and they also have a problem with cats.

If you live in place where you have no neighbours for several miles, or alone on one of the Scottish islands then I will accept that you are a special case. If you have neighbours that are within range of a cats nightly travels then it is quite possible that the cat is entering their property. I accept that if this is the case, the cats may not be causing an issue, but equally they might and the people affected have not been able to identify the cat concerned (activities occuring at night etc) and approach you to let you know that they are being affected, or indeed they may not be bothered about it.

I don't recall anybody stating the "poo" did harm the grass or plants. The excavation prior to the poo damages the plants. The cats sitting on them damages the plants. Poo on the grass (although I only seem to get it in the flower beds) is not pleasnt if run over with a lawn mower (the same applies to dog poo which I have experienced).

Hitting a cat turd with a petrol strimmer is also something to avoid - Olly - Try shovelling it up and putting it through the nearest cat owners door with a note saying their cat seems to have misplaced its belongings - alternatively, cut the grass every week - they don't seem to like short grass - no idea about the flower beds though

I have been having a think about installing a movement activated sprinkler system, but it might be a PITA when you are trying to cut the grass

I would like OllyK to take responsibility for his threads because they are causing me loads of stress.

J4CKO reminded me of an American road side poster I was e-mailed. The slogan read, "There is room for all Gods creatures, ....... right next to the mashed patatoes"

One outcome is that I am asking our sys admin to make it impossible for me to get to SN from work as I obviously can't show enough restraint to do this myself.

Have fun guys n gals. I'm getting back to work now

I do not deny the issue doesn't exist and no doubt if it affected me, I would be looking for options. Until, it does, I am not wasting time on 'ifs'

Can only reiterate, I/we have no problems here. Maybe because most neighbours have large dogs, me included
