Yea im intrested in this too, Ive got a MY01 UK300 (same as WRX) and ive recently fitted some blue backlit gauages and I would love to get the standard dials changed.
Is this an easy job? Do you just take the dials out and swap the LEDs? How easy is that?

anyone know how to get access to the bulbs in the dash?
I've an MY00 - so I need the 5mm bulbs yes?
also I was wondering if you need to do anything to the back of the dials - arent they green, do you need to get that off?

2 screws to remove the cowl, 3 screws to remove the clock unit, get your hand behind, and undo the 3 multiplug connectors, and then gently ease out past your steering wheel, being careful not to scratch it, or the plastic glass ( put a rag around the steering column, just in case
bulbs are then dead easy to change
Just thought I would mention, I havent done mine, as Im still waiting for the smaller 5mm LEDS
The clock is the only thing that will stay green, but i have my own plans to turn that blue, and should be 'dead easy'

Great idea and looks good, I just can't believe there are the questions and problms regarding the clock illumination.
Go to any decent stationers and buy some adhesive coloured film, job done, remove clock housing and "wrap" with film - hey presto.
Skoosh.
ps: with regards to MY96uk scoobs, what size bulbs do I need?
pps: Don't forget to buy yellow adhesive film.

Right here goes some of your questions up to MY97 old style dash you will need 10mm leds and for the heater controls you will need 5mm leds and the same for the *** lighter.
New style dashes will require 5mm leds
Always buy extra when getting them as they don't cost that much now they will be useful as spares.

Huxley.
Thank you mate. Sorry the price of these has come down so much.
But if you sell them for the price you was gonna sell them for and throw in a quality fitting instruction im sure people will buy from you. I know I would.

Fitting guide if anybody wants to know Pice of pish
1. Tilt steering wheel down.
2. Remove four screws from dash surround (2 top, 2 below switches).
3. Pull forward & unclip switchgear plugs (remembering which is which).
4. Remove the four screws from the instrument binnacle.
5. Carefully lean forward and unclip the multi cable blocks from the back of the instrument binnacle and the single plug in the centre of the binnacle.
6. Twist & unclip the six large lamp holders - you should now be able to remove the lamp from the holder.
7. Insert new LED lamp into holder then re-insert back into the original position.
8. Repeat above for all the lamps in the instrument display.
9. Re-connect cables to the back of the instrument binnacle.
10. At this stage carefully sit instrument binnacle back into position & turn sidelights on to check that the lamps are all functioning. If any lamps are not working, remove lamp, turn around and re-connect. (Warning - be careful not to scratch the clear plastic cover in front of the dials)
11. Refit the instrument binnacle, switchgear and dash surround (and put your steering wheel back to original position!).
12. Two of the lamps are modified to fit behind the fascia of the heater controls.
13. To remove air vent fascia from the centre of the dashboard - remove the two screws just underneath the air vents and carefully pull air vent fascia off.
14. Remove the three adjustment control *****.
15. Remove the two screws from the heater control back plate (the fascia with the control pictures on!).
16. Remove existing lamp & holders from back plate.
17. Unclip back plate leaving the clear plastic diffuser showing.
18. Insert lamps into the old lamp positions but from the opposite side from which the original lamps were removed (i.e. insert lamps into clear diffuser side with the back of the lamp poking through the back plate).
19. Refit back plate & reconnect lamp holders to modified lamps - go careful not to bend the connection wires on the back of the lamps (this is a bit of a challenge due to not having much cable to play with!)
20. At this stage, turn side lights on to check that the lamps are all functioning. If any lamps are not working, remove lamp holder, turn around and re-connect.
21. Refit heater control back plate.
22. Refit the three adjustment control ***** & air vent fascia (reverse of above!).
Usual disclaimers apply; all modifications are done entirely at your own risk & I take no responsibility for your actions.
Fitment to the main instrument panel is identical to the UK</SPAN> cars. The heater control section is different however, in needing 3 bulbs and not 2. The design of the bulb holders is different as well. You should have 3 bulbs with the blue plastic shield removed, with bare wires showing. When you remove the heater control section (as per the UK cars), you should be able to see 3 bulbs holders, which will be white/yellow.
· Unscrew these holders, and you will see the original bulbs inside the holder. You should be able to remove these bulbs, by careful unwinding the wires from the holder.
· Insert the blue bulbs into the holder as far as they will go, and re-wrap the wires around the holder.
· Screw the holder back into the main unit, if the bulb fails to light up when the lights are turned on, un-screw the holder, rotate around by 180 degrees, and re-insert.

Hey Huxley, couple-a Q's.
1. Mines an MY04, so I would need bare 5mm LED's in BLUE (or RED) to change the heater dial colors etc, is this correct ? I wont need the LEDS with the sleeves anymore since they fit into its own LED socket.
2. Will order the BLUE LED's as per say above in 5mm, how many will I need.
Is that your site ? Will (you) ship to Aust ?
Thanx much Look fwd to multi-colour dash

Steve - We never did resolve the 5mm bulb issue for your car, send me a pm with your details and I'll issue a refund for you (truth be told, I'd forgotten about you ! Sorry !). As Huxley says, the mass-importers can get them in cheaper than we use to be able to, so people are probably better off going via ultraleds.
I'm not aware of anybody who's successfully changed them on the new-shape Impreza, so can't suggest a fitment guide
Anybody interested in the classic fitment guide, can find it HERE
