I was meant to come and say hello on the day, but never knew which one was you. I was following a DBM in so assume that was you?

Yeah, I'd either ring him or call in and speak to him face to face...

DW - worth investigating cams etc before TB's. Don't get caught up in the hype surrounding tb's at the moment - they should be quite a way down the list of mods on a n/a motor really.

Cheers Moose, initial plan is just to get the motor rebuilt for now and running as OEM, then work on mods after that.

WOW!!

Just been up to the guys in Sabden, Rick - what a setup!! Made me feel really welcome, showed me round the facilities (including an Aston DB3 which is being fully rebuilt at £120k!!) and also looked round the Pug.

They are going to quote me for a full engine rebuild, depending on the state of the current motor. He said it messy under the bonnet, all pipes need replacing, wiring needs re-doing etc so it aint going to be cheap Will have to hold off on the TB's for now.

One thing that is really superb is that they are the guys that built the original Mi16 BTCC engine for James Thompson back in 95/96 ish pushing out 320bhp or thereabouts.

He also showed me why I was only getting 15.5 1/4's at Elvington - the induction pipe twixt AFM and TB has a 1" diamter hole in it, feeding unmetered air to the inlet No wonder its not running right and only doing 20mpg.

Will keep this thread updated when I get the costs through later next week - better start saving

The verbal list is:

- Flowed/ported head
- New pistons/liners
- Cambelt
- All piping
- Engine bay clean
- Uprated oil pump
- Grp N head gasket

etc etc, will probably be £3-4k

And thats if the engine is OK - if not, will need to find a new engine from somewhere as well.

Told ya there were the place to go...

I know it won't be cheap, but you know it will be a top notch job and they have years of experience with the Mi16 engine!

Even a standard Mi16 lump in perfect health is rapid in a 205, so with them re-building the engine properly, plus the additional work you want doing, then even without TB's it will be a flying machine!!!

Would seriously consider cams myself and ignoring TB's for now, as a fully re-built engine with cams, headwork, zorst, filter, etc... is gonna be powerful enough...

He did mention cams, and the bonus is of course not having to tell the insurance about internal work/cams etc

I have a full price list here of every part needed for the rebuild including all gaskets, pipes, liners etc. Comes to just under £1200 so will see what there labour charges are like. Factor in another £400 for cams I would think.

It would be rude not to get cams...

Be even ruder not to let me drive it when it's done!!!

Sorry its Sabden. Rick is Rich D

Sabden is a small village near to Pendle Hill, near Burnley about 5 miles from my house.

The guy doing it has just emailed me for some IT advice, so hopefully I can help him out and build a decent relationship with them

stick a cam in at the same time and have done with it.. then it doesnt need to come to bits again.

Probably will Dave, I can get away with just uprating the inlet cam if necessary, so costs wont spiral too much.

Or may just have them re-profiled - all depends on the state of the internals really.

If you do buy a Clio, look for a low mileage MK1 - they're quicker, Plus I can they hasstle you into buying a roll cage and harness off me!! Bargin at £200 sovs, cost me near a grand about 4 months ago.Sold the car if your asking for a STI ProDrive..

Than a mk2 maybe, but not as quick as a Cup or a 182!

Also, the handling of the mk1's is not the best of the group, I've done 3 trackdays in a mk1 172 and it wasn'g great, and when I got my Cup it showed how bad the mk1 really was. Not hard to sort though....

UUmmmm, mine 9 times out of 10 did 0-60 in 6.4.......but thats the difference between a side step and a slipe from the clutch. Either way the 172's are effing emntle, have a great amount of fun matey
