No I wouldn't - I was paraphrasing the original post. Are you pissed or summat?

We are told that the country as a whole is living on borrowed money because of the low interest rates. The eventual problem is that it will eventually have to be paid back to the moneylenders. The low unemployment at the moment is helping everyone to keep up, but as UB says, there will eventually be some kind of depression in the future as there always has been just to balance things out. That is when it will really bite because the moneylenders will not be generous to those who can't pay and the bailiffs will have a field day. Unless Gordon Brown is very lucky with his predictions, the IMF will also give this country a hard time. It has happened before of course and I believe it will happen again.

I certainly find it a bit of a worry.

Gordon Brown - Prime Minister, do me a favour.

I'd rather vote Tory FFS!

I'll not vote for a Scotsman to rule England, so the liberal ginger drukard jock doesn't have a hope in hell.

Has anyone not realised who is responsible for the rediculous amount of tax on petrol?

Assuming Labour get in power next time around, and that's a fair assumption given the Tories lack of direction at the moment making them an ineffective opposition, I'd go for Brown over Bliar anyday.

Unlike many on here, I've never trusted the bloke. Anyone who constantly repeats the mantra "trust me" on such a regular basis immmediately raises my suspicions, particularly someone coming from his political background who's so desperate for power that he's prepared to ditch virtually every policy and mandate that his party stood for and instead adopt Tory doctrine just to gain power. Very suspicious.

So, I'd go for Brown even though we're going to get raped on taxation (watch what he does do property taxation) after the General Election as I believe he has the necessary gravitas that Phoney Tony lacks and is less willing to be the pet poodle of the American administration. I don't like his tax and spend agenda but the one thing that Labour have done from an economic standpoint that I fully support was giving the control over interest rates to the MPC - and that was a Brown initiative.

As for the rest of the political debate I'll leave it to others as that's not what this thread is about and I can't be bothered.

Thumbs down

Slightly off topic but......

At least you could see an NHS dentist when the Tories were in power.

Try finding one of those now

Mr Browns NHS spending is really working then

I don't think Tony Blair should be allowed a 3rd term as PM, and that the UK should take the US's example - 2 4yr stints and that's yer lot.

look at what happened when the tories won their 3rd term in '92 - they just started to take the p!ss after that, did what they wanted rather than what they thought was best for the public - I can't see Labour doing any different.

Did you vote for Mr Blair, born and university in Edinburgh?

Re Americans and IMF - I heard Brown was being shortlisted for the IMF job (or was that World Bank), and that he's a lot more pro-American (I think re economics, not politics) than Blair.

Just for the record, Blair was NOT born in Edinburgh, NOR did he go to University here...

He went to Fettes College here, which is secondary school (11-18 yrs).

I rang up, booked an appointment, and that was it. A friend did the same at a different location. As did a Czech student I know who's over here.

Hertfordshire sure doesn't have a problem with NHS detists

You are lucky then, I guess it is reigonal.

My friend was told he had to travel over 30 miles to see one. Not easy when you don't have a car, and AFAIK no bus or train service

Hmm. Once again, I try to put across a valid point but screw the facts up.

From the official 10 Downing St bio (reached via the Google-advertised thankyoutony site, which I had desperately hoped was a spoof but it seems serious ) :

"The son of a barrister and lecturer, Tony Blair was born in Edinburgh, but spent most of his childhood in Durham. At the age of 14 he returned to Edinburgh to finish his education at Fettes College. He studied law at Oxford, and went on to become a barrister himself. "

Doesn't that make him Scottish by birth? Or are you going to exclude him as they don't have enough Irn Bru and salty porridge in Durham?

Scot friend of mine here recounted her daughter's quip in a history class. Teacher: "Colonialism is one nation ruled by people of another nation." Daughter - "you mean like Scotland and England at present?" [Blair, Brown, Cook at the time...]

As for dentists and "As did a Czech student I know who's over here." - light the blue touchpaper and retire

Dunno why all this talk of nationality anyway....

To be elected to the UK parliment, you need to be a UK citizen. All the members are. It is a parliment for the whole of the UK.

Look at India, they've just elected an Italian Catholic to be PM (although she has now declined). Do you not think they have more reason to question it than us.

Yes, we have a Scottish parliment now, but its remit does not take over ALL the remit that the UK goverment has (ie, taxation, etc). Therefore, it is STILL morally correct that Scots, Welsh, English, N.Irish should be allowed to stand for the UK parliment.

Why the racism on here about it?????
