i could try and twist the old mans arm, but we are really busy at the moment. The answer is yes, but would need a decent amount to make it worth while.

Seriously... this has to be the second time in the space of a few weeks where the mud flap thing has come up. From what i gather the material is about £30 (enough to make 4) which people dont seem to object to, but no one seems to be able to make the brackets. if you could mass produce em, i would have thought there would be plenty of people wanting them.

Around £60 for DIY flaps or £150 + for pre manufactured ones.

 

CEL the templates I have are from Genuine STi flaps I was quoted £45 for the brackets from a local S/S firm as a one off job (cheap price he said they would normally cost about £60)

Stainlees steel costs. How does 2mm aluminium sound? Im gonna get some quotes for the brackest to be knocked out on a turret press.

 

Be careful with the 'templates', depending on where they are from they may be protected.

Go get some Universal ones from your Subaru Dealer. I got some for my WRX03 for £24 all in.

I would use aluminium NOT stainless, cos the bracket needs to bend slightly as it is secured in place. This is because of the profile where it attaches to the car.

They are my own design made simpler based loosly on the genuine STi flap brackets from Subaru.

 

There is always a ways around that

The angle differs from car to car, depending on how the bodykit fits.
Only on front brackets.

As i`ve said before if Megabusa did Red I would have bought them straight away for £130 its worth it just so you dont have the hassle of getting the brackets made.

 

It doesnt differ that much, the angle can be set at a certain point and the screws will do the rest.

 

i think stainless is the one mate. It bends perfectly well i think here at work! 2mm sounds good too.

The parts arent complicated at all in my opinion. Whether they come from a press or are laser cut the bending will be simple, the rear brackets require no bending and are a mirror image of one another. The front brackets are again exactly the same part but a left and right hand (bent in opposite directions), so there will only be one set up on the brake press (bending machine), althougth there are 2 bends i would use the same radius tooling, but change the angle of the bend. Its not like the angle has to be held to a tight tolerance, and with the thickness of material the parts can be easily manipulated once the radius is acquired.

 

1.5 stainless m8. we're in sheet metal too and fitted a set of genuine prodrive ones to one of the MY03s last week

2mm or 1.5mm i dont think it will make a difference tbh, may be cost!

 

Cel , If you go for the Sparco could you find out if they do em in Red ??

Got some sparco flaps... im not 100% sure they are the same ones that Dan got though. As Dan already pointed out, Demon Tweeks sell what appear to the be the same ones i got yesterday for about £7. I paid £15 .. anyway, i got the rears fitted last night without brackets .. will post some pics up later on. I can't see how they will ever come off unless they are literally ripped off.

Im going to attempt the fronts tonight after ive been to Subaru to get some clip nuts

I also saw some of these in red last night in *cough*Halfords. Not sure how much they were though, im guessing £15 per pair, Larkspeed in Rotherham do em too at £15 per pair.

Some pics of the rear flaps fitted without brackets. I had to drill one small hole in the back of the arch but other than that its relatively simple.

I really dont think the brackets are necessary unless you are planning on doing some gravel stages in your scoob.










Waiting for the clip nuts to arrive at Subaru today and going to attempt the fronts either tonight or tomorrow.

What's everyones view on leaving the brackets off? the flap is bent to the shape of the wheel arch to some degree, but still hangs straight at the back.

Nice work Chris, and the way you have done it means that you don't need brackets. Looks fantastic especially when you consider the price.....remind me was it £15 the pair !!!

Dan, im still conviced the ones from demon tweeks are the same as the ones i bought from a local motorists centre but are double the price. Demon Tweeks Approx £7, local motorists centre £15 (both per pair)

Just had a call from Subaru, the clip nuts are in. Might have to wait till tomorrow night tho... out on a drive tonight.... see if i can pick up another 3 points

 

Just a note, be carefull they are slippery boggers and quite easily slip down behind the plastic trim!!!
