Hello all....
Anybody been out so far..?.......i think down here weve had perhaps 6 HOURS possible windsurfing this YEAR ..............

 

Back to this rarely visited thread.... still gets more traffic than a land rover forum I once visited

I went out the other day. 5 metre, all day, and was pretty good generally. Jusst bought meself a new wetsuit yesterday, so garanteed no wind now for at least 3 months

Anyone else?

 

Good start to the season.. been pants since about mid june..

Incedentally, I started this thread when I was looking for a first shortboard (username's changed as I couldn't remember the passwd / changed email addy)... I've now sold that shortboard, and own only an 84ltr board, and nothing bigger than a 6.2 (which I can't use on the waveboard - doh!), and spent 1/2 the winter in lancelin (WA) wavesailing.

Think the thread's been going a while??

That said, now that the summer seems to have ended, we'll probably get more wind.....

Biggest I've got is a 6.4 at the moment, which is very good, although I'm considering part-exing that for a 4.5 or something along those lines It always seems too big a jump between a 4 metre and a 5 metre...

What were you doing over there anyway? a few months holiday?

Got to be the longest thread in the 'sport' bit anyway Everything else is football anyway...

Didnt really get out at all till about 2 weeks ago - although probably did have 3/4 force 4 sw's possibities before this( but thats about it..:eeeK). Sort of mad to have wind this time of year ....strangly we really dont seem to have had any sea breezes tho.
Im getting rid of the light wind kit i bought 2 years ago, carve 135 and heckler 8.5 - which hardly ever got used. Just have my drops flyer.. which ive found out i can use my 6.5 on ....
Still thinkin of getting a jp/ fanatic or similar freestyle/wave 105 as my *1* board. ....although james at surfladle has a 108L rrd '98 freestyle board with lots of rocker and 6kg - as used be some celebrity to win 'king of the lakes'....???........wants 175 for it anyway ....

 

Yup, got fed up of job, (ex)g/f wanted to do a year in Sydney.. quit job, Christmas in sydney, then headed west for a while. Came back to do a month of snowboarding, then returned to the real world

Now working in sweden temporarily. Completely stuffed up the windsurfing!

In all fairness, I need a 100-110 freestyle, which was what the 6.2 was bought for (bargin i couldn't resist on a naish boxer!)

Need to learn to loop, then i'll be happy (oh, and make a few more gybes dry.. but that's the boring bit!)

Go for it with the freestyle board though - most fun I've had in ages, and a hell of a lot easier than on the wave board I no longer have. I'd consider a small freestyle/wave if I'd not just upgraded me car... That said, my 97 litre freesex takes right down to around a 4m or so, but not in the waves, only really on flat water, which suits me at the moment anyway

I was after one of those boxers as well - perhaps one for the 4.5m I'm after, although I was considering another Simmer crossover, as the 5m one I bought a few months ago's been spot on

I thought freestylers could loop on 2 foot high chop...
i guess sweden not ideal w.surf territory- wouldnt mind cruising there in me yacht tho.. and norway.

so you reckon i should keep wave board if i get a 100l freestlyle/wave board Franx.?

Personally nothing's going to part me from my waveboard.. I'm going for a larger 100-110 freestlyle as the lightwind board, 6.5 to 5.7 weather, and use the waveboard 5.7 down. TBH I'd like a smaller waveboard once I'm properly stacked on a 4.7 - the idea of using even a 97ltr freestyle in those sort of conditions is 'orrible... even flat water will chop up, and they're pretty bouncy. Personal taste I guess, but I love the waveboard.

As for sweden, I don't fancy trying to get my kit on the monday/friday commuter flight.. and I think the hotel might raise an eyebrow too! Def not windy enough in s'holm for wave kit, though maybe up the coast... and I've not managed to find a hire shop sadly!

 

I think I would You may never use it mind you, once you discover freestyle , but it's nice to have a wave board as well. I sold mine when I bought the Freesex mind you, as my mate just had his nicked, and I didn't think I'd be using it much anyway....

My 97 litre doesn't seem bouncy though That said, most of the time at West Kirby, you can get completely flat water for ***** skippers etc, if you sail right up by the wall, which doesn't alow waves to form. Twas why they have the speed trials there - 50 knots of wind (sadly not often enough), and only ripples on the water

Well my carve has sold along with the 8.5 heckler...and im being offered RRD freestyle 108L from '98 (£175) or Mistral score 104L from '99 (£250) or pay 15% commission and pocket the cash...
As far as i can see i could get an 02- 03 starboard of this sort for 350ish? on boardseeker. The freesex looks a dedicated freestylee type thing - is it..?
(im really after a crossover board - little too old for big tricks now)
maybe i should just stick with the 87 litre drops flyer - you can get a 6.5 on there appparently..

 

Demo'd the Score today , in varying wind 3.5-6 (gusts)....it does say freestyle on it ..( i wouldnt mind trying a few tricks but im too old/not intrested in more advanced manouvers.......).
Its about 6 years old however and really just felt a little larger than the drops wave board.......maybe i should just be gettin a 2 year old 112L as an all round final board......'n maybe a smaller wave board. (cheap)

It is a freestyle board, which was what I was after, but what that really amounts to, is a wide, stable, early-planing design, which is forgiving enough to rescue the odd **** up, and make things generally easy if you do try the odd thing (I didn't take that off the starboard catalogue btw)

It's quicker than the Skate and most other freestyle designs, and pretty bloody good as well
I don't think you'd be disappointed anyway - only thing being, is that it's not that great in the waves, being pretty flat underneath.
Sail range is around 3.7 to 6.5ish - maybe more, (on flat water) as far as I've used anyway.....

Get one of them and a wave board as well

Well maybe when i get workin agian ill go for a freestyle type but newer than the score - poss freesex poss, rrd freestyle wave another possibilty. Mate liked the skate on holiday so he might go for that. Im really bit confused as to what i need now....

I'd missed most of the wind when I got to the lake around 9 ish. Half an hour earlier, and I'd have had 30 odd knots, but it was a good day anyway, although I'd not been out for weeks Not really enough wind up here though, so the vulcan attempts were out

Didnt attempt it in the end ,great big tide and dump.........and more or less continuous horizontal rain.............maybe jus gettin old

 

kitespeed says you should all learn to kitesurf . the next best thing to driving a scooby.
i shall be teaching soon so drop me a line and i shall give you any details i can . i'm based in cornwall hayle if your interested.

Kitesurfing? Wassat? Do a proper sport

I've thought about it tbh, but the windsurfing's got me for the time being, and kites do seem hellishly expensive compared to the 4.5 sail I just bought What I was thinking of, was getting a mountain board, and giving the kiting a go from there. I do need to learn how to control it though I'm better with the sail in my hands

Also I'm a bit far away, but it is a good idea I'll even teach you to windsurf if you want

 

Thanks Kitespeed ..From my perspective its also too expensive to take up and run .....
I have a mate who has switched but hes got a good job. He no longer lives by the sea ( mountain board- in parks, )........ every so often he gets down to the coast to experiment on the water.
I also like to be at one with the wave which i cannot see is possible with a kite...
.......im also too lazy to travel with gear now to a suitable kiting beach ...
( we keep all our stuff in a beach hut and bike it down there )

 

Just thinking about it, it's probably no more expensive to start up than windsurfing - the kiteboards are cheaper than w/s boards by quite a lot, whilst the kites are more expensive than sails etc... Probably balances out tbh, but it seems a bit steep starting from scratch when you see the price of new kit But then, how much of your w/s kit was bought new, at full price?

Just thinking about a slalom board btw Something bloody fast, very small, with no volume and very hard to sail I think Like the Copello 262 I've got my eye on. I'll try and get down there to see it during the week hopefully.... There's a speed event at West K in a few weeks, and I need something competitive

Mate just bought a starboard kombat ......a 96 l .....not sure the 105 might have been better - hes 14 stone mind.
So there i was perusing the starboard site..........now im thinkin the freesex maybe my next board along with a smaller evo .

There sonics look okay for speed ....

Oldish, at 1995, but it's gonna be quick. Similar in speed to the Thommen 265, which is a similar shape to the Sputnik - probably the same shape tbh

I can't find a Sonic though. There don't seem to be any around at all - only hypersonics, which are kinda nippy, but not fast enough and too big

There's a new Starboard out this year with the demise of the freesex - meant to be a freestyle shape, but slightly faster, I was reading.... Sounds good Have a look through the mags as well though, as there's all kinds of deals there. Tabou freestyle boards at 100L, going for about 400 quid, which is hugely reduced. They're supposed to be bloody good as well

 

HI YER.....lol...Yeh our windsurf shop had one o them hypersonics going cheapish about a year ago, i was fancying it......UNTIL they pointed out it would be suicididal in the waves...

Tabou boards eh?? - seem to have been a part of bic.. ... Found a 'da curve' at 400 ish on boardwise ,couldnt see the freestyle tho

Got the Copello A 262 RL Slalom. Strangely light, and it looks bloody fast, and even harder to sail, but I suppose it'll come with practice Now there'll be no wind for at least 3 months whilst it gathers dust.....

I'll try and go out tomorrow I think - forecast looks reasonable anyway, although it may not happen yet.

We shall see

I still have that damned 295 RL Slalom. Still can't sail the thing.. though admittedly I don't try too often.. more interested in sailing the waveboard.. which is much easier
