windsurfing - anyone on here...

Me too, West Kirby only these days, been out twice over the last month, broke loads of stuff, had to pay a few vists to Git (or whatever his name is) the robbing sod. Was out two weeks back, blew all day, got out on the lake at 9:30 with 3.5m!! Tide came in, wind dropped a bit, 4.5m for the rest of the day, up and down to Red Rocks in two minutes, fantastic, sore legs and burnt face!! Really got the bug again after not sailling for 3 years, not been any wind since thats windsuring for you.

West K as well eh Have you a Legacy GT by any chance?
Gif, the shop guy, is a bit dodgy, & all the windsurfing stuff is a bit old but there's a better W/S shop at the south end of the lake. D spot wetsports, it's called. Has a website somewhere as well.
I remember a 3.5m day a few weeks ago, but I think I was away. Sailing a Fanatic E ray at the moment though, as mine's still at home, following a 'small' repair Nice to have a more up to date board once in a while. It's the sailing ctr's trial one, and it's very nice, esp in light winds, when mine just sinks
I'd like to say there'll be some wind tomorrow at W/K, but it's been predicted all week, and today there was only just enough to get planing

Franx,
No mate not got the Legacy mate, used to have a 97 Dark Green Mica, til it got stolen I use the **** box escort estate when I go to the lake, not very often lately given the total lack of wind. I sail fanatic mosquito 252, bit old now, but given I get out 2 / 3 times a year I'm not going to buy a new one (not unless I can sneak one past the mrs!!) and I like the fact it's tiny Will be there next time theres any decent wind. What car do you drive will keep an eye out for you
Cheers,
Leigh

Bloody 30 knots today, and I can't be there.... Parents having a bleedin' party, and I'm meant to be at home.... The only day in the last 3 weeks there's been proper wind as well. That said, yesterday was good. Out on a 6.5, and had a hell of a time Got the board mended, and it's back to normal, so I'm just getting the duck gybes sorted again...

Topped 38 knots yesterday.... Perfect for that 4m I bought a week or so ago. Not that I was there
I'm after a speed/slalom board of around 70-80 litres, if I can find one as well. Have the right sail for it already - a 5.5 'Pryde VX3 race sail, which is good for 35+ knot winds. I've always fancied a few speed runs down the wall at WK. Just need to find the board, and get out the GPS Need to break some records...

Has anyone sailed a Fanatic Skate 100? It's a freestyle board, which I'm just thinking about, as mine's not very good for things like that, as the volume's too low, and it's more slalom-orientated.
Any thoughts?

Never actually sailed one although i think this sort o thing would prolly be more useful all-rounder than my wave board. I think i had a go on their 'cross board on hols once and that seemed okay. tell us how u got on !

Awesome day yesterday. Managed to buy a new (second hand) wave board on tues, sailed all afternoon yesterday. Absolutely battered now, but so
Franx: the skate is more mainstream / allround example of a freestyle board. Should be reasonable speedwise, but they carry quite a bit of rocker so somewhat sticky. Also somewhat wider for size and soft rails, so not grippy as. Will probably be quite bouncy in chop. Skate is apparently very good (I've not sailed one), allegedly a lot better in 2003 model onwards. (all based on reading and more knowledgable friends opinions - I also looked at one.)

Folks,
Way back when when I started this thread it was about getting a new board 'cos the slalom board wasn't suiting me.. well, I'm now down to an 84ltr wave board, and I'm still not getting on with the slalom board.
Couple of peeps expressed that they liked slalom boards, so.. not really a for sale ad, but if anyone wants a 289 copello redline (with fin), drop me a line. Thinking about 50 quid, or make an offer, I need the space...

little radical for me ....cheers mate. I too got out in a good westerly last couple o days here off saltdean , blummin gusty .......but fun slidin down the waves ,overtakin them and semi jumpin on the way out .......would have been even better with sw............. Ran outta wind last night, just switched off ....long paddle ta shore....... Definatley think cossover board to replace or compilment carve 131 and wave board is way ta go .........duncan

Yeah, you're not wrong.. the jp's a 02 wave 84, lovely... was looking for a freestyle wave, but the wave's great, so long as there's plenty of power
Plan on ditching the 121 carve and getting something 100-110, freestyle-ish.. don't like big sails anyways and the carve's a bit barge-like.

Thanks for the info.
I gave the skate a sail the other day, and found it very nice - haven't bought it yet though, as the owner's in Oz, and we've not got hold of him yet Really nice board though, and it feels nicer than mine in most ways.
I am after a slalom board.....but probably erm...quite a lot smaller than that I was thinking more of around 265 max, and around 75-80 litres. A speed job, that is Getting close to the autumn gales
Out at West K almost every day this week on various things - the Skate, my AHD freeride, 2 HiFly slalom boards of 86 and 95 litres, and various others..... Spot on Quite glad of a break , now that there's no wind today Got the skateboard rigged up with a 4m sail as well for a wee bit of fun round the car park. for some reason, most of the manoevers are easier than on the water - Vulcans, duck tacks etc - no problem at all, which I can't say is the case on the lake Wind's starting to get good now though.....might just have to go out again

My skateboard - It's just under a metre, with normal trucks, although they do need tightening slightly, as they occasionally rub on the underside of the board when you bank right into the corner.... It's a normal board, as you'd but from the shop, but longer, with the UJ set up just in front of the front wheels.
Gybes - duck and carve etc, are easier than on the water with a bit of practice. It is possible to tack as per normal, but there's no board to stand on in front of the mast, which makes it hard. Have to kind of straddle the mast, and hope the board doesn't flip up as you do so Best way, is either duck tack, which I can very rarely do on the water, or push tack (ditto) Either that, or you just sail backwinded, rather than switch the sail.
Vulcans - put your front foot in front of the mast, and pivot the board on the front wheels....it comes with practice, and you end up rolling backwards, with the sail backwinded. None of us can yet do a spock on the skateboard, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't possible...
Go and dig out that board again Helps your windsurfing to no end
We tried a mountain board as well, but on the tarmac at least, the skateboard was better. Have yet to try it on the sand though. Might invest in one of those....

Bit of a useless session today at WK... Wind was all over the place, and seemed to range between about 5 and 25 knots all at once Got going a few times, but generally not very nice
On a more positive note though, I nearly (again) did an aerial gybe , but then fell off
Anyone else been around? Might be some wind tomorrow I think

Well looks like the end o the season already .........broken 2 masts this year, 1 sail ( shorebreak) and board is prolly waterlogged . - oh well some refurbishment work over the winter. After a friend went windsurfing in durhab ( blue lagoon ? ) ,looks like 3 of us going there in march or was it may .....I think diving may take precedence for me - although apparently there are waves outside the lagoon......

Bit cold though.
My computer's been knackered for the last few months or so, so not been on here..
Anyone still sailing - apart from me, that is?
Now got a starboard freesex 96 which is just spot on. Just perfect So much easier to do stuff on than my old AHD....
Anyone want to buy an AHD Freeride 267? 96-97 litres, 2 fins. Generally good condition....even after what I've put it through

Does anyone of you lot want a free waveboard? My folks are clearing out their house in Bude, Cornwall and want me to get rid of my old board. I have no use for it as havent been windsurfing for years.
Its at least 10 years old. Bic Alto, 255cm, not sure on volume but Im sure you can find it using google.
This is what it looks like (although not my board): http://www.p1f.co.uk/bic-alto.jpg
Free to a good home - all you have to do is pick it up from Cornwall. No great rush just testing the water.
Simon.
P.S. From memory there is a wave fin, deck plate and UJ with it. Footstraps probably rotten by now.

Still a bit cold for me tbh And I'm getting me hernia done next week, so don't want to push my luck
I've decided I'll crack the backwards stuff this year. Still need more time on the water though, which I can't get at the moment, as I'm not working at the sailing centre any more Not unless I lose this job anyway. I had some really good sessions at the end of last year, but not since then. It's warming up though, so should be back in action soon.
Anyone been out this year yet?
I was after a wave board till recently in fact, but I've only just got the hang of this freestyle board, so ok for now

3.7 weather That's bloody windy....35 odd knots or so?
What weight are you Might get away with less than that, as mine's a 96 litre, I'm 75kg/11.5st, and it goes very well. I've even had it in non-planing conditions, and it's floaty enough for that as well.
The guy who owned that board before me was stacked, and a fair bit heavier than me, and he used to do every trick in the book on it
http://www.speedsailing.com/SAT/photos/129_2912.html That's the guy there. Came 4th in the weymouth event on a custom speed board of around 55 litres....
The way I figured it, I can't blame the board any more, as I've seen him do everything on it, so the problem must be me

Watch yer mate hope its goin ok..
I think im bout the same weight, maybe a few more kgs, so maybe as you say a 96 would be good. Then again im gettin old so maybe a crossover board would be better together with my carve 131........
Fairly sure even the basic manoveres (sp).......would not be poss. on my drops flyer 86 tho.

Aye not so bad eh Getting there....
I suppose 86'd possibly be a bit on the small side - although I think it's more the actual shape of the thing that makes more of a difference with freestyle types of things... I know a guy who tried a freestyle board, and complained at how slow it was - haven't found anything like that myself tbh, and it's been just fine. Maybe a 100 litre one'd be the best bet - fanatic skate, starboard freesex and so on.
Be going backwards in no time
Had a quick go on that skateboard the other day with a 4.7.... A bit painful though, so it didn't last long
-ed- 100kg? Blood heavy board that

Those JP ones I hear, are a bit on the brittle side - the ones you buy are exactly the same as the ones made for the pros. Could be a good point I suppose, but I don't suppose they run 'em into walls that often like I seem to
