Could either Sean or Simon confirm the LFS server is now an ex parrot, a dead duck, a lame lamma. Put us all out our misery, we have been waiting patiently for weeks for an answer but to no avail

Hi Guys
Apologies, but we've had to take the live for speed server down for a while as it seems to be causing some instability issues in the web servers.
Hopefully this should only be for a few days.
Apologies again

Can anyone host a temp server from their home PC? Guess your going to need BB, but at least it would be something..
Had a blast at it last night, could be cool, very realistic. I have toca race driver. And can see the apeal for LFS. Hope to get on a server with some other SN members soon.
Regards

Hosting for 8 clients requires just over 20k upload bandwidth which will easily be handled by a 256k DSL connection with a some bandwidth left for browsing d/loading etc, and in my case gave a decent experience with minimal lag when I hosted a session some time back. Those on here that tried it I'm sure will vouch for that. Unfortunately I'mm using all my upload b/width at present pretty much 24/7 at least until the end of this weekend. May host again if demand is there, can do the full version too but I got no response from the last time I asked.
Is no problem to host but need to know either way.
Cube.

The person hosting will always have a massive advantage, why do you think companies make money from dedicated servers. I have played many online games for years now and the thought of playing on someones home adsl connection does not fill me with joy. I suppose if you have low expectation than fine. The word contention ratio springs to mind.

However with a racing game Like LFS, i think its ok.. Like cube said, 8 man is fine on 256. DSL. and better than nothing..
Anyway.. any sign of a permanent Server yet?

I agree Ted, it is possible, but as even many dedicated servers lag like hell, and the SN server was really terrible, I just wouldnt play any 'competative' games on a home connection.

I have tried to download the game, but it does not seem to work. Does anyone know if there is a problem with the download?
Also is there somewhere else i can download from?
Cheers

Should do a new thread really but.. Toca Race Driver 2 is out, and has a free demo MP down load. I think its well polished.
You can get it from yahoo games at the moment. About 225 meg. give it a shot,
Ted

well, i would host one if I could find a way of running it without the app showing (ie straight into systray), doesnt seem to need much bandwidth, got a nice co-located server which would do nicely
Damn fine game, S2 is out soon!

If the server doesn't reappear not too sure I will spend another £12 on this, only got s1 so I could join in with what was originally planned on the first page of this thread. Certainly got my £12 worth though getting a whoop-assing from Flat4 and Leuven and playing dodgems with Jye

I wouldn't mind giving the online racing a go again.
PS: Jye- I've finally done a half decent lap on GTR in the Lister = 2:19.xxx. As ever.... with room for improvement.
