Although this wont stop people passing that information on, the fact that it isnt quite as straightforward may weed out a few of the less scrupulous people. As neil then says, some people will take the mick, as always, but as long as one account is active for the couple, at least they have some access - and if they are at all serious then they wont mind a delay in the second username going live. And of course, they will possibly (probably?) have a username anyway (ie not be a Plus member but still have access) so could utilise most of the benefits until membership was activated.
As I see it, the solution needs to put as little strain on Simon, Shaun et al in terms of extra work, but at the same time make the sign up process just a little less straight forward for the 'couple'.
Just something to think about perhaps.

Perhaps only one card / pack should be issued. Surely both partners do not need the card on them all the time.
There are more reasons no to do it than to do it.
Most online agencies like Cahoot do credit checks also. That is far beyond the requirement to join ScoobyNet.
Maybe the way around it is to have the posting only membership where you do not get a card giving you discounts. The idea being someone else in your household already has this facility. The bloke should have this as the misses would get suspicious of your '£50' purchases if you keep asking her for the card.
This way all family members get to post and abuse is minimised.
It's circular. If a mate can get something cheaper, not ScoobyNet specific, than me I'll get him to get it for me.
It should be an exercise of minimising risk / abuse not removing it. That is unlikely to happen.
Good luck either way.

Payment by cheque only with both names on the cheque??
[Bitter and twisted]Not so good when you don't trust your thieving partner to have access to your funds.[/Bitter and twisted]

Hi Chaps
Thanks for putting so much effort into it. I think we're still a way off yet though.

How does that stop you and I signing up as a couple?
Payment by cheque only. That means that two mates could still do it from the same account, or from their wife's account, etc and give it their mate. It also means more admin / checking from our point of view matching everyone up, plus the handling of cheques, which we're trying to get away from.
So far the potential solutions mean more admin work, and most do not remove or even really reduce the abuse element. We all talk to each other here, so emailing a plus member and saying "there's a fiver in it for you if you pretend to be my misses!!" is very easy
It may be that this can't happen, although it would be a bloody shame, so PLEASE keep coming up with ideas. I genuinely can't think of one.
Please make sure that your solution answered items 1) 2) and 3) on my post on the first page.
All the best

Idea
How about just doing a discount when buying two memberships at the same time regardless of whether you are a couple or not. If two friends want to join at the same time then fine. Send out one pack for the two people and them fight it out who gets it.
It's just like a mini group buy, you are guarenteeing yourself one payment of £70 as opposed to 'possibly' two of £40 for example.
You could even take it further and give discounts if 10, 20 ,30 etc people want to join at th same time. This could possibly cut down on admin at your side aswell.

The problem is, it cannot be made fool proof. Whatever proof you give, there is nothing stopping you giving the log on details etc to a completely different person and or you buy stuff with your sn card and then they pay you back, which can happen now anyway. Unless we are planning on having retina confirmation at logon, there either has to be a degree of trust or it doesn't happen at all.

Someone joins and mentions another member who made them join and that member gets a months free membership. Only a matter of adjusting a membership expiry date hopefully.
Be nice to have a couple of ScoobyNet members at the door come Sunday instead of Mormons for a change. Convert them all I say.

A couple wouldn't mind but I dont thinks 'mates' would agree to it.

OK, I didn't understand what you meant.
Problems with that solution are that a) it means people could easily work out what people's passwords were, especially if they were a trader and therefore knew their plus member number, and b) it would be additional admin for us as we'd have to set something up to assure this happened.

How about the sign up a friend deal where you get another months membership for every person you get to sign up as in the Sky friend deal.
Wouldn't be abused, as it is not the person joining whom benefits but the person who proselytised them.
Do I hear an amen?
