Simon, is this data available on the net ?
Jason you can get TAFs and METARs from quite a few places on the 'net.

Try http://www.avbrief.com - free registration to get access to met although no access to surface charts etc

This one's pretty good too http://www.phd.nl/aviation/wx/ although the met on there can be a bit slow to update at times

Still nothing down here though Bristol is taffing light snow for this time tomorrow but that's about it.

Ah BBC metmen...can't live with 'em, can't kill 'em

http://www.metcheck.com/48hrforecast.asp is quite useful. Use the drop down menu to enter your county and its should give you a reasonably accurate forecast.

The TAFs at the AvBrief will be as accurate as you can get though. Just find the EG** of the airport nearest you for the closest forecast.

A bit of snow and everyone starts panicking. People rushing yet again to buy everything off the shelves at supermarkets.

This is nothing worse than we experience pretty much every year. All thats happening is the jumped up tv weather forecasters trying to justify their jobs by generating a bit of sensationalism.

When we going to realise as a nation not to get caught up in media hype every time!!

Fair enough, these numpties should give advise that there could be bad weather heading our way, so old folk for instance can prepare properly for it, but stop bounding about temperatures like -14 to scare the hell out of everyone.

I hate weather forecasters, the overpaid, glorified fortune tellers that they are!

Rant over, feeling much better now. Roll on the snow!!!

Woke up this morning and it was raining. Went for a shower then looked out the window again - 4 inches of snow, where the **** did that come from. Still snowing hard and a forecast of 60 knot northerly winds. Supposed to be our all night Viking fire festival/****-up tonight

Kevin - Shetland.
