If you suspect you have been followed. First make sure, go round the round-about a couple of times, take a detour etc, try and get the VRN and make/model. DO NOT GO HOME, GO TO A POLICE STATION and report it. If you go home they know where you live.

All good advice, but if u r stopped by police with a basebell bat within reach inside the car the police can arrest YOU for carrying an offensive weapon and the excuse that it was there for self defence will not wash unfortunately.
Alternatively join the NI police who issue guns to their officers for on and off work times.Only a thought!!!!!!!

Re: baseball bat. Make sure you carry a ball with you as well, then there's no problem! Alternatively, get a 6D Maglite
On a more serious note, I have to agree with most of what Talizman says. However, I do take my keys to bed with me - that way, I know where they are - and they can be lobbed down the stairs as appropriate. Although I do sleep with a 6D Maglite next to the bed, just in case.

Re: baseball bat...
i live in a tiny little valley where EVERYONE knows EVERYONE. so i knew both dudes in this story...
one guy was driving home from supper with his family (wife and 2 kids) at his friends place and the other dude drove up behind him and flashed his lights to pass.. so dude 1 pulled over a bit to let him pass.. dude 2 did so and slowed down when infront... but slowed to such a speed dat dude one could overtake him... so the circle started again... flashin of lights.. passing dude 1... and slowing down... eventually after quite some time.. they arrived at traffic lights. at this time dude 1 was VERY P*SSED OFF with dude 2 for being such an a$$h*le!!! the lights were red.. so dude 1 got outta his car, grabbed his baseball bat outta da car, punched through dude2's windows.. pulled dude 2 out.. and beat the sh*t outta him... eventualy killin him. da police couldnt recognise dude 2. couldn't even check dental records. had to finger print and stuff...
so.. take dat into consideration... maybe a baseball bat isn't da greatest things too have in da car.. cos imagine dat everyone else on the road has a baseball bat.. and WILL beat the kr@p outta u if u **** them off... don't like dat idea.
cos i live in south africa.. i gotta have sum sorta protection.. so my trusty .45 glock does the job

I was followed to the local jetwash a couple of weeks back. By two baseball-cap clad kidda's in an old Sierra, they drove behind me for about ten minutes.
Jumping amber lights and driving erratically to keep up......
I thought it was someone baiting me to boot the car, you know how it is.
When I got to the carwash they stopped about six inches from my rear bumper. I got out and walked towards the driver(with my 'what the **** do you want' face on), he promptly slammed his heap into reverse, and whalloped the Air machine. Then drove off.
Some strange people out there.
