twohats,
i purchased a PPP ecu off 'scoobynet'. there is nothing on the ecu or 'can' to identify it as 'Prodrive'. However the pink sticker on the 'can' is identical to yours...!?
as my earlier post - all i did was swap my 802 for the ppp - and it ran luverllllllllyyyy. (my00)

two hats

dont know if this might help- if not it may prove your not going mad.

l had standard 801/802 ecu change under warranty because of flat spots in the power/acceleration. when they put the new one on the thing wouldnt idle but just stalled. dealership contacted subaru uk for tech. advice. i was told that they had to reprogram something in the ecu. after that it worked fine.
coincidentaly when they fitted the exhaust the maf sensor suddenly failed-but youve already eliminated that.

btw the casing in the photo is identical to my 2nd hand ppp ecu (numbers). and the same as others ive seen. so i think the casing is original but there is no way of authenticating the board inside afaik.

cheers and good luck

Nice one Dicky T that is a really big help as i was getting to the "throw the bas#*%d in the bin" stage as it must be some cobbled together sh#*e lol. im gonna speak to prodrive in the morning to see if they can verify what theyve done to it in the past. trouble is im selling my classic so theres no point me getting it redone to suit my car as i wont have it so ill see what it is and whatr it will suit then advertise it accordingly.
thx again for ya time

Prodrive themselves never re-mapped the ECU's until very recently (with the introduction of the Flash2000 software from EcuTek). The only official re-mappers were STI in Japan.

This is why the PPP ECU is an STI ECU with a re-map designed for Prodrive for use on the UK 99/00 cars. The mapping was all done by STI.

Just because it has a Pink sticker doesn't mean it's not right - the Dealer should have known this as every PPP ECU has a Pink sticker.

Here's a pic on the one previously fitted to my RB5

You could try it in another MY99/00 UK car and see if the symptoms follow the ECU. The only real way of checking the map to see if it's correct is to have one of the EcuTek mappers read and compare the map to a PPP ECU. Don't know if they would need to charge the license fee to even read the ECU data.

Stefan

P.S. The Prodrive sticker has been added by the previous owner as I've never heard of Prodrive sticking their badges on any PPP.

Does the problem go away when you re-fit your original ECU. If so, then it's worth getting the ECU checked.

If it was only 10 mins then the ecu may not have lost its learning, borderline, does sound like you have a maf issue and I suggest you get it looked at/changed pdq, if its playing up the idle then its certainly playing other areas up and could hev serious results if it partially fails on boost.

The PPP maps are a bit different in the idle area and could make the difference, certainly there would,be no fuel learning in the PPP which would account for the poor running if the maf is dodgy.

There is short term correction and long term learning.

Maf should be around £75, takes two minutes to change it.

yes the problem does go away with my original ecu on, car runs spot on.
Bob. yes i had trouble with the MAF sensor, the car was hunting slightly so i changed it but still didnt sort the idle out with the ppp ecu just stalled and smelt very petroly.

spoke to mr wood at prodrive today who was very helpful he suggested i try my maf sensor 1st which i had and he said the only way to really check it is to try it on another car the same as mine to find out if its my car or the ecu that has a minor fault. so if anyone with a MY98 99 or 00 living within farting distance of louth has half an hour to spare and wants to try a PPP ecu on their car give us a shout.
thx to everyone who has replied and for all your advice.
