What people don't realise is that firing bullets into the air is against ALL religions, because you are aiming at God.

And then people expect God to protect them when there is an atrocity on earth.

Lets hope those bullets land on the heads of those who fire them.

 

As for if a bullet would travel further on the moon, the answer has to be no it shouldn't technically move at all should it? because the cordite in the bullet casing needs oxygen in order to ignite and as there is no oxygen on the moon there would be no way for the cordite to ignite so no bang no preasure so bullet no movey.

For people talking about bullets being fired at extreme high speed, IIRC the escape velocity (that required to shoot a bullet so fast it escapes the Earth's gravitational pull and thus into space) is about 11km/sec.

 

As someone has already said, the propellant contains oxidizers and will burn in the absence of air.

 

No it wouldn't. If you fired a bullet at such a speed it would be shot in to space.

 

I think the vast majority of people haven't discharged a semi-automatic firearm into the air during a birthday celebration or indeed a Coronation Street wedding. So I think he must be punishing us for some other minor indiscretion, erm...breathing perhaps?

 

I saw an experiement where they set-up a gun at a metre above the ground and fired it out over a lake, they dropped a bullet at the time of fire and both hit the deck at the same time, gravity effected both in the same way.

 

to answer to original question - 1500 metres !!
(i only know that because i've just watched last nights' tv programme on the 9mm bullet....)
