No AK, that's yet another fake based on the WRC promo pics. Stickers Photoshopped off, instrument binnacle and steering wheel moved to the other side. Shame they forgot to correct the low right-hand (co-driver's) seat, remove the WRC camera pod and the jacking holes. It's a slightly better attempt than the one AutoExpress published, but it's still a fake.

Phil, although the members you have stated are "well connected" and are in the "know-how" but this is what they "think" and "imagine". I am saying that with most of the scoobynet community waiting in anticipation we have still had no official word from Subaru... it's all guess work at the moment!

Forget the wagon,
I want me a STi8/9 two door, c'mon Subaru, do you EVER listen to your customers??
How about a 400bhp straight 6, 3.0 twin turbo in a two door STi8, 22B style body for 40k. Hands up who would buy one. I know I would.

I wouldn't. Subaru won't go for an inline engine, they're synonymous with horizontally opposed designs, and even if they felt like running an inline, the amount of re-engineering necessary to fit one inside the current Impreza bodyshell would likely be prohibitive.
If you meant the flat six, it's a fair bit heavier than the EJ's. Put it, another turbo and all the other bits it'd need over the front axle and the handling would soon start to suffer. Why bother with a six when you can get the same results from an EJ20 or EJ25?

Scratch,
Does seem odd that they never introduced an STi wagon, in the past they seemed to have sold really well, a sheep in wolf's clothing
They apparently, are prototyping a lighter body style for 2005/6 a 3dr hatch version of the ImprezaIII, the Subaru 'Comet'

This article was taken from the autoexpress website about the new subaru to be released in 2005.
"Tuesday 28th January 2003
350bhp Impreza Muscles In
Things move fast at Subaru... very fast. Although the new Impreza has only just arrived, the firm is already plotting to unleash an STi model that could end the Japanese supercar debate with Mitsubishi once and for all.
A senior source at the company told Auto Express: "Subaru has something quite special in the pipeline. We're now working on a 3.0-litre turbo Impreza for Japan and Europe that will generate in excess of 350bhp.
"Unfortunately, we're having teething problems with the transmission as the current WRX STi six-speed box isn't capable of handling the torque the engine produces." Several solutions are being investigated, with the most popular being to ask a company such as Getrag, which has much experience in building heavy-duty gearboxes, to work on the transmission.
But before you race down to your nearest dealer, bear in mind how long this is likely to take. Development of the car is said to be very complicated. Our source suggests we won't see the 3.0-litre turbo powering a Subaru until the next Impreza model change, due in 2007. However, anyone wanting a taste of what's to come should be aware a muscular 3.0-litre normally aspirated engine - the platform for the turbo unit - will be used in the new Legacy, here in June. Subaru says the non-turbo will pump out close to 240bhp, which is 25bhp over the current car's output."

True isn't it! ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
I and others have paid over £500 to get our STi7's to handle somewhere like it should, but still it's not as good as a EVO8 out of the box!!
Subaru have the opportunity with all the devices they have at their disposal, to produce a excellent top of the range WRX for the wanting UK public.
If it's the same as rumored above(i agree btw) then for me it's a poor attempt for a limited edition, all the extras bar the DCCD is what we have already.
Please Subaru/IM listen to what people are looking for and give us something really special!!
