Supertouring, they do it cause they are in their own little protected environment, it seems to be the smaller the person the more abusive they are. i've had a couple get out their cars to have a go at me before, that is until all 6ft 3 and 17 stone of me gets out of my car then they soon f##k off.

Can I make a suggestion to those of you who get upset by other drivers behaviour. Try going on an Advanced Driving Course. It teaches you to anticipate other drivers actions and then when they do something silly, it comes as no suprise and you wont get wound up by it. The other advantage is that it teaches you to plan ahead. So when the other person is still smiling about what they have done, you can slip in a quick overtake that they haven't seen the opportunity for. You may have to spend a few weeks with some boring, glove wearing, Morris Minor driver, while you are learning, but it'll make you a much more relaxed and better driver.
Why risk getting punched/rammed? The chances are you have got a much faster car than the nutter who's just cut you up. Let it go, avoid eye conatact and the p**s past him when he's least expecting it.

The Boy
"I have no idea...." You are quite correct. It would be prudent not to judge people by comments made in a single post.
I cover approximately 30k miles a year up and down this fine country, consequently I see my fair share of "Road Rage" incidents.
The vast majority are handbags at dawn and no more, this was the context of the van v Lexus incident, basically a prat who is consistently inconsiderate to other road users getting a bit of his own medicine.

Did it stop him from driving like a pr!ck – No
Will it happen to him again - Probably

If somebody puts either myself or my family in great danger by dangerous driving what should I do thank them ?? … I think not.

Unfortunately some people such as yourself seem to jump on the moral bandwagon and start quoting stabbings etc ..... Why ?

The thing I dont understand is why do people expect to get away with swearing, shouting abuse and hand gestures. Whats the difference from doing it in a car to do it down the pub? If you do these things you should expect some form of conflict. I never make any signs at people, you never know who is in the other car.

TMO,

I have not judged anyone. As said in my previous post the idea that it is ok to try and beat someone up by the side of the road seems warped i.e. condoning road rage and physical violence. If I mis-interpreted your post I apologise.

I do about the same mileage as yourself and also see the normal minor rage incidents of shouting, gestures and more erratic and dangerous driving. But every now and then someone particularly unhinged takes this to another level, physical violence. I am not quoting a stabbing incident but a scenario that could very easily happen on today's roads. I know many people who arm themselves with Maglites, rounders bats, crowbars etc ( the guy in the focus lost his hearing in one ear without any weapon used ) I also don't believe that I'm jumping on a bandwagon having directly been involved in one of these incidents.

I like you get very angry when I see dangerous driving but now tend to keep my distance and avoid a potential accident caused by that driver.

We may have to agree to disagree on this one. I'm just quickly voicing my opinion.

I have to say I didn't expect the number of posts regarding this issue.

What I was saddened by was that in 16+ years of driving (I'm an
old fart compared to some of you I guess); I've never, ever had
to think about using a deterrent to make someone back off.

It's basically the first time ever that I felt that there was sufficient threat to respond in such a manner to what was pointing out misuse of the road.

If I didn't have a deterrent, then there's a chance I'd have been dragged from the car; and would have probably ended up in A&E or worse. I personally don't see a torch as a tool with which to beat someone to a bloody pulp, but being slight of frame (only 5'7"), I don't see myself as a match for a large 'green' fat man.

I sincerely hope I don't ever have to strike at vulnerable joints, throats, eyes, etc or attempt to incapacitate anyone in order to stave off a threat to my life of my family; but since yesterday, I'm beginning to wonder...

Merc's , BM,s!!!! Nah! It's those bloody white vans that are by far the worst. Little or Small, Transit or Escort, they are definitely the worst culprits of sh*te drivin.
