Mine has arrived.
No duty to be paid either.
Unfortunately it's about to make it's way to a new owner already.
Everyone who mailed me now has a reply with an update.
Thanks for all the advice and feedback Harvey.
Cheers
Johnny.

There should be a declared customs value on the package along with a description which HM Customs use to work out the duty and vat from their tables.
The rates used depend on the category of the product, all EU countries (should) use the same rates for good from outside the EU.
There is website with pages and pages of rates somewhere.

I got mine this morning after paying £122.64 cash
I think Mr Chan might have sent the wrong one as the core is bloody massive ;-)
All pipe work present and correct and the unpolished core is painted silver so a quick repaint in black hammerite will do.
Just need to find time to fit it.

AAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!
Harvey / others- need your help / advice.
Went to bank as instructed 10 days ago - and direct transferred money to Mr Chan's bank as a direct money transfer. (paid the extra £6 for express 3 day transfer). Within 2 days got confirmation from my bank that money had been sent. Though nothing more. Now 10 days later, still no intercooler, so e-mailed Mr Chan to ask what was going on. He hasn't received the money!!!!!
Note : Bank transfer instructions all correct - have checked. Spoke to bank - they said money went out of this end, so they'll e-mail hong kong and investigate where money is, but this could take up to 10 days!!!! I'm just wondering if money went to Beijing by accident like yours?? Meanwhile, my car is off road in bits. Help!!! I need to know who to phone and yell at to get the money sent to the right place quickly. How did you sort it out?
Cheers,
Dxx

P.S. Am going to fax Mr Chan a copy of the bank confirmation of the money going out, and transfer details. Don't know weather that'll be enough for him to arrange shipment in the meantime?

Get your bank branch to phone their international division and confirm where they sent the money and when and get a document showing that.
Say you already know of one other customer who had his money transmission cocked up totally because the International division sent the funds elsewhere.
Very interested to hear how you get on. Ten days is a joke. If not dealt with expediently ask for the name of the area manager or Regional Director.

do not accept any hassle from the banks - they are a right pain at the best of times.
agree to do as harvey advises. the only way to sort this out is often to get nearer the top - most average clerks are merely cannon-fodder....

As you've found out, you pay import duty on car parts. Can't remember the rate, but you can work it out...
On top of that, you pay VAT on the goods, the delivery charge and the import duty. Yup, you pay twice on the import duty - the duty and the vat...
Finally, ParcelFarce charge a "clearance fee" of 13 quid upwards. It is particularly painful when they charge this on something that costs 25 quid originally . I have twice tried to contest it as unfair in writing, but get told that they are legally entitled to do it, and that I can go and take a running jump (or something like that)
Also, not wanting to be a damp blanket, but...
HMC&E do not take tax avoidance lightly, and I would advise that you do not get involved in asking people to mark gifts as goods. You can mess around with some people, but you do not mess with HMC&E, as they have stupid amounts of power. Falsely declaring goods value will land the seller in hot water too.
This is a stunning deal, and it looks like a great kit that I may well be interested in in the future, but just please think of who might be reading and don't say anything silly, that's all
Kudos to those involved in organising it.

Oh well, I'm on the trail of the lost money. At least i've found out where i think it is?? It was sent to Beijing!!
Have E-mailed Mr Chan to see if he can get money? My bank are trying to trace it, but because the screw up is abroad they say it could take up to 10 days just to trace. Time could be made longer as it's about to be chineese new year!!! PANTS!!
Hopefully, if the money eventually arrives, things should then go smoothly. In the meantime I'm off Her Majesty's Highway as the cars in many teeny tiny bits.....

Like I posted, I can understand £80 odd import duty but not the £122. Concur totally with Chiarks comment. Do not be a fool for £80 or even £122 and even with duty you have an absolute bargain so do not be greedy or milk it.
DXX:Please confirm your bank, mail off line if you prefer.
Andy: Spain is no problem. Put your name on the Second Hybrid FMIC thread and monitor that thread. No need for a deposit yet and full instructions will follow soon.
Unpolished and delivered is 608$ plus bank charge(s) plus import duty and tax. Rough estimate in the UK is £550 maximum.

Mine has arrived!
i had £91.10 to pay on it?!?!
it cmae with 3 pipes + bag of silcione reducers and union clips, also two what appear to be approx m14 bolts.
also a loads of screwed up tabloid newspaper for packing - looks like HK equvilant of the Sun!
the intercooler itself is ok, although there are is a small area of squashed fins approx 2" x 1" - wil probably be able to bend them back into shape though. i think the bad of bits must have worn through the hole that is in the cardboard box that the core comes in.
not to worry, it looks great otherwise.
anyone else have any damage?
