I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the moment with these replies !!!

Very inconsistant.

Perhaps wearing a skirt and make-up is my only chance ??

Moray,
I told one insurance quote bloke and his next question was - "why have you change the whole gearbox on a 3 month old car ?" before I colud repond I was asked "that must have been expensive". I tried to explain for about ten minutes and then the final question "does it make the engine more powerful ?" .

Blackie,
I think you have have hit the nail on the head and basically its up to the magistrate and the mood he or she is in at the time.

Best bit of advice from all these replies - grovel, plead and apologise.

cheers

It's gonna cost you ......

Depends on what you want - at this level, with a clean licence, it's possible that you'll get a one-week ban and a £200 fine, or 6 points and a £1000 fine. I got the latter.

Whilst it seems like a poor deal, having 6 points on your licence for speeding makes the renewal premium less than if you admit to a ban.

Best advice is to get a solicitor/barrister, who will at least be able to present your case in the most favourable light.

Good luck

Blackie...

You'll be pleased to know your not alone. I've just been mobile camera'd doing 64 in a 30. I know this is Extra bad due to it being a 30, and I'm really not proud of it at all.
The only consellation is that it is a point where it goes from 60 to 30 and then there is a 500 yd stretch of countryside before getting entering a village. I know the road very (I live in the village) and most people use this 500 yd stretch to slow down as it feels endless at 30. I'm not complaining (fair cop guv and all that) but I feel that the camera was placed there to generate cash rather than stop accidents, but hey.

Has anyone heard of getting an Irish or Isle of Man license in case of being banned? This could be bull, but I've been told this by a few people???

Cheers

Simon

OK.

Hope you're not too gutted about it. After all, the day when we go to court will arrive, no matter how much we worry about it.

If they ban us, then they ban us, it will be a pain in the bum for a while, but will be over and then forgotten. At least we're a bit fed up about being caught for speeding rather than for having a big accident or similar. Thank God.

What have you decided to do in the mean time?

If you fancy doing a course to show willing, let me know, we could do it together if you like?

My plan is this:-
Do a course.
Sell my Scooby before the court date and get a small run-about car to indicate how seriously I am taking this. I will then use this car as my mile eating to save my proper car from high mileage. I will speak to a Lawyer so I know I am doing my best to stop me from getting banned (I would much rather a painful fine than the ban) and get him to convey how important my car is to my work. I will also tell the court that I have averaged 50K miles a year over the last 7 or so years without a single offence.

Then I will just pray, LOTS.

Take it easy

Simon

Blackie

This is my first posting so i hope it helps...

There are many factors affecting what may happen but the odds are in your favour. Firstly a lot of it comes down to the judge in court (what mood he is in that day). A factor that is in your favour is that your speed was only measured over a short distance and was not an average of 101mph over a longer distance.

I recently got clocked at 104mph but that was my average over a distance of 5 miles (I hit about 118mph at one point). Anyway the case went to court and I escaped with a £250 fine and 6 points. It was obvious though in court that they make a big deal whether there was any sort of distance involved so I was extremely lucky.

Also it helps to get a good solicitor involved, they have a certain way of putting things that judges like to hear.

Good Luck

I was clocked doing over a hundred on the motorway, but didn't realise it because my speedo was broken!! (it honestly didn't seem that fast)

Anyway I was counting on getting off scott free as firstly he spelt may name incorrectly on the ticket and secondly he had written zero as the number of passengers when my girlfriend was with me at the time.

I watched LA Law for a couple of weeks, got myself a dark suit and went with my well practiced opening questions.......

Q. Officer, how long have you served with the Taunton & Somerset Constabulary?

A. 10 years

Q. And in those ten years, how accurately have you performed your duties? (now walking up and down the court room)

A. As accurately as I can.

Q. And in this particular case, how accurate were you? (now pointing into the air like that Hugo Sinqualese bloke)

A. 100%

Q. I'd like to make the court aware that my name AND the number of passengers are incorrect on the ticket and I would like to enter that as evidence item A for the defense. Now I am not a lawyer or a policeman and I've found two huge flaws- I fail to see how this case can continue!!

At this point the JP told me that it was his prerogative to decide whether the case continued or not and that it would. Never before has my heart sunk so quickly (that was all my points gone)

That was my first mistake.

My second was implying that if the officer could not count to 2, how did he manage 102? - That resulted in more trouble.

Anyway got a 3 mth ban and a hefty fine.

So the advice I would give from this experience?

1. Go to Oxfam and get the oldest suit you can find. Old enough to show you've got no money, but a suit all the same to show you've made the effort.

2. Take up a job driving an ambulance for the disabled in your spare time (you can give it up after your hearing)

3. Be creative with your earnings (remember you may get paid a lot, but they want to know how much you earn!!)

4. Appologise, cry and say you wanted to be an MP or even become Prime Minister and a conviction will only serve to damage the country in the long run.

Remember, they will never see you again so don't be proud!! and good luck!!

Naunt,

If "anonymous" began with an "E" could we call you "Mister-E"?

Wouldn't that be Avon and Somerset Constabulary? Oh no, maybe I've been providing professional support to the wrong police force for the last five years!

Back again !!

Simon De Banke - I'm slightly confused, what advantage is it to sell your Scooby ??

Why does this make you sound more serious about the offence ??

Blackie

You need to contact Mr Andreas Serghis (Solicitor). He specialises in the defence and mitigation of motoring offences, in particular speeding offences and aslso where a ban may or may not be imminent.

Call him on Hove (Brighton) 01273 735248 or his emergency pager 01426 233833. He is vey, very sympathetic and will appear with you in any court in the counrty. he has done me proud and got me off the hook a great speeds than which you got zapped. His fees to are very reasonable and this guy is used EXTENSIVELY by Porsche Club Members.

Good luck!!!

No blackie...he's just sh*t hot at what he does. He's saved me and my licence on more than one occasion for doing far higher speed.

A porsche club member has just appeared in court b4 xmas for doing 138! result...475 fine and 4 points and thats on licence with 4 points already for speeding over the magic ton.

Your in good hands with him. I know a lot of members who have his details stuffed in their licence (i do just in case)

good luck!

Wink

zoog,

It's nice to hear someone cares about my outcome, good news is I'm not writing this from prison !!

I got my summons through in late April,(nearly 5 months later)!!

I have to thank Mark Underwood at this stage as his advice of calling Andreas Serghis (solicitor) was of great help. I called him and explained my circumstances i.e clean license 101 mph etc... He said that he would gladly represent me but thought it would probably not be necessary as he deals with far more severe cases and my clean license would be a strong advantage. I thought he was extremely honest and helpful and would not hessitate to recommend him to any other unfortunate Scooby speeders.

I had to appear in Cullompton court on May 2nd so I spent the bank holiday weekend down in Devon (it was also my Birf the day before which spoilt things a bit).

Anyway I arrived at court on the day and was met by the court usher who asked me if I wanted to see the duty solicitor for advice, I nearly said no but thought it's free so why not ?

About 20 minutes later a smart barrister looking person called me into a room and explained that the duty solicitor had not arrived and he had offered his assistance to speed (pardon the pun) things up.

I told my story to him and he thought I would be OK, as the magistrates would be pleased that he was helping them out to get all the cases seen and I was fortunate that I was the first in (as my surname starts with B !!). The person he was there to represent was in a far deeper predicament than myself. He said that I would only have to say my name and address and he would do the talking

So we go in and I say my N & A and sit down. The barrister starts talking and I try and look sorry for myself , I had a pin in my pocket in case tears were needed, remembering Naunt's advice that you will never see these people again !! (hopefully !)

Anyway very impressed with the barrister they have a way of talking the magistrates language so I can see how Andreas gets good results.

The end result was the magistrates telling me how lucky I am to have escaped a ban.......and awarded me 6 points and a £300 fine with £55 costs (more funding of police camera's !!)

Thanks to everyone for advice and concern, be careful out there !!

Blackie
