Land Rovers are like Scoobs - there are many enthusiasts who love their cars like we love our Scoobs. We know they have faults (Scoobs not Land Rover owners ) but the benefits by far outweigh them... Granted late model Range Rover owners are probably a little more aloof than the average Disco or Defender owner - but driving a 'Landie' you will soon make friends 'Squire' LOL

Check out my links given previously.

Also you are keeping people employed in UK industry - which can only be a good thing!

Austen WRX, no way fella. All the problems on the current RR are from BMW sourced components.

I have had a classic shape Vogue, a P38 4.6 HSE and we have just sold a 12 month old current shape RR. The build quality on the current RR is the best any Solihull product has ever had, but it still falls some way short of Japanese vehicles.

At home we still have 2 110's and have now bought an MY04 Shogun to replace the Range Rover. Yes it may not have a beautiful interior, but you know it will work in 12 months time.

I love the Solihull product but would never dream of using one as an everyday car if I hadn't got direct access to 'important' people at the factory! The final straw was continually being given an X Type as a courtesy car by our local dealer. That is dis-courteous IMHO.

Re the original thread, to tow I'd buy something Japanese as they appear to use proper capacity diesels rather than Solihull's woeful offerings, and for a fun off roader a £50 SJ410 with some mud terrain remoulds is far more capable than any standard Solihull product.

Have you ever seen a bare body in white shell, the welding, damage to panels and finish is the worst i have seen on any modern car. There is far too much manual assembly and chance for operator errors in the production to ever get a consistently high quality and reliable product.

sorry have to echo previous comments..land rover/range rover = big bills + nasty reliability.....would have to be a shogun or similar
.. even a good mate who runs his own car dealers runs a limited edition range rover autobigoriphy(dodgy spelling!!)which i have to admit looks awesome but even he says, and i add he is big landy fan, having ownned disco's prior to this rangey, that the shoguns etc blind it in respect of driving /running....overrated was how he summed up..
by something jap....look just as good as any rangey and last ten times longer!!!!!!

Austen, I agree with you. The only fundamental thing different between a 90/110 now and a 1948 Series I is coil springs. They are still hand built, and the quality of work is indeed, crap.

My point is that the new RR's still have problems that are linked to BMW design and component sourcing, not just the construction process.

A friend I worked with had a Range Rover, it was always breaking - Air suspension was fubared and it cost £700 to replace the computer(!?!) that manages the electric sunroof.

I say go with a Toyota, thousands of terrorists can't be wrong, they all seem to drive hi-lux's and you never see them calling out the AA

Mick mentioned petrol opposed to diesel...

Remember, there's lots of 4.6 HSE RR's with LPG conversions around!!
Probably cheaper than diesel if you buy it ready converted.

So the general thought is to stay the hell away from British Built!
The problem I have is that I dont like any of the jap ones. They have awful interiors (in my opinion) and diesels are too thirsty to run, petrols dont seem worth converting.

Perhaps I should be looking at a Legacy or Forester for the qualitys i am wanting from the RR. I did see a nice 320 BMW touring at the weekend, 52 plate and 15 or 16k I think.A very nice motor indeed. YES/NO?

All I know is that the scooby is too raw for my every day use. Just looked at the throttle on a round about the other day and it light all four wheels and took a sideways exit onto the A9, IN FOURTH BLOODY GEAR! Thats after driving it for nine months, still harnessing the power.

What should I do????? Bearing in mind I still havn't sold her yet.

Hi scoob, just take a look around an count the number of those Mitsibushi L200 double cab 4X4 pickups there are around, they seem to be the latest fashion accsessery, good spec, 5 seats petrol or diesel to name but a few, and seem to hold there value well. Just another option, (thats thrown another spanner in your works for you). Ady.

I recommend a Jeep cherokee 4ltr limited, fully loaded, leather, aircon,LSD's,switchable sports transmission.Drives like a luxury car with the off road capabilty....pure class!! and excellent build quality with cheap parts availabilty.

I have owned one for 3 years and the only thing that has gone on it is a battery.
Landrovers/Range Rovers??? unrealiable ...why do you think the plod has ditched them and gone for the BMW X5 (well in Hampshire anyway)
I used to work for the Police recovery scheme and the Discoveries were always breaking down (gearboxes and head gaskets were the main faults)together with the Maxi/Montego/Maestro trim falling to bits.
