CEL fix
#31
I figured thats what the device did basically emulating the output of a working sensor not trying to be antogonistic just getting my head around it all, still though why would you bother if a resistor does the same job. What else does the box of tricks do that would be needed and as for the SS fix not always fixing the problem thats just laughable....unless its just a resistor....

Personally as I am going to fit a full SS exhaust and my dealer doesn't accept any wiring or cutting near the ECU (but accepts a full catless exhaust - stupid ah? Don't tell this to him!) I have to solder the resistor under the co-driver's seat (LHD) where the harness is and it will not be visible! We'll see if it works, otherwise I have to buy the SS fix and try to hide it somewhere under the seat...!

I'd missed this thread or I would have commented earlier.
The Scoobysport CEL fix is a microprocessor and feeds the ECU with readings so that it will not trigger error code P0420 (Catalyst below efficiency threshold). On some cars, an error code can still be triggered but this is P0136 (Rear O2 sensor voltage low). The amount of cars that produce P0136 is around 3% and the problem is greatly affected by the health of the O2 sensor.
We have had some fixes that were out of tolerance and these were replaced and only related to one batch.
The resistor and capacitor can work for a while, but will not work all the time. If you want to see it fail, go for a hard drive, then cruise down a motorway at 55mph. The US market, where this fix came from, found this out when they first got the car in 01. Its a very unreliable fix.
In developing our fix, not only did I do almost a year of testing, but I also read Denso's patent on how their algorithm works. Several times we thought we had it cracked, only to get a CEL after months of use. The ECU measures not just a voltage difference, but also a time delay, between a rich signal that it creates for both lambda sensors to measure. It then compares the two signals and if they fall outside a range it gives a CEL.
If you never drive on a light throttle, at between 50mph and 70mph, you will never get a CEL for cat efficiency.

Madgrip,
Look down onto your ecu in the passenger footwell from the top moving down you will have the wired blocks into the ecu they are numbered from the top as 137,136,84,135,134 cut the blue/silver wire to block 135,pin17.connect the orange wire from your cel fix to the ecu side and the blue wire from your cel fix to the side that goes to the rearo2 sensor, solder all connections and insulate them.carefully remove some insulation from the yellow/blue wire to block 137,pin3.solder the yellow wire from your celfix onto the yellow/blue and insulate the joint.earth the black wire to thechassis using an ecu locating stud and nut.thats it away you go!

Hi Pete
Ian Armstrong at Stan Palmers here in Carlisle sorted out the de-cat for my MY02 Bugeye (Briliant!!!!) including a CEL which I am sure came from Scoobysport. The SECS report cat problems and the CEL still comes on. The CEL fix was fitted in May (ish) of this year...does this co-incide with your faulty batch ??
