I find the max power brigade are ok, they tend to oggle, but with respect. Its the Beemers that are a nightmare - belive that 'cos they've forked out for an overpriced car they own the bloody road. Arrogant or what? Usually driven by wannabe snobs!

Before I got my MY00 I test drove a 323i, so had the smug little salesman badgering me for weeks afterwards. I had great pleasure in telling him that as his "fantastic" 323i accelerated and cornered like a boiled cabbage, I'd gone for the Scoob instead!!

Don't feel bad guys, it's not just scoobs. I get it in my old shape supe. People seem to always want to race me, or barge me out of the way, so they can say their 1.6 'is faster than a 3.0 Turbo'.

As for BMW drivers, w@nkers, the lot of 'em. I probably don't suffer from tail-gating as much as you guys though. Probably something to do with me being not only faster, but decidedly larger and heavier...

My sister works for a BMW dealer. She told me 318s are bought by people who can ONLY JUST afford a Beemer! It must really make them sick when I leave them for dead in my 'estate car'. Actually I don't suffer too much from tailgaters. Not nearly as much as my husband in his Celica GT4.

Guys whats with this BMW bashing cool it....

I opted out of my company car scheme in December 97 and at first had a MY 97 scoob and then 14 months later a MY 98 scoob.

The first car was stolen after 11 months after being used in two robberies and eventually found three months later after it had been burnt and crushed. The second car has never been found after it was stolen three months after I had it. I now have a BMW 323Ci which I got in July 99.

Both scoobs were much better to drive and quicker than the BMW but the build quality is rubbish in the scoob they are now becoming the cars which boy racers have. When I am at the lights and a N plate scoob pulls up I know it is going to have some early twenties idiot in it with a baseball cap.I must say I find Calibra drivers and then Vectra drivers the worst after having a BMW and a Scoob.

I am sorry to say that in Birmingham you have a high chance of having your pride and joy nicked if its a scoob, because of my job I can't be without my car so thats why I went for the BMW. Nice car less diserable by the robbers.

...had one of these annoying bstards after me last night...he kept on following me in my brand new GT (I'm trying to be nice to it, no hard revving - it's hard believe me)...weaving from left to right looking really stupid...I washed my headlights a couple of times...but no...he kept on tailgating me, and showing me that he wanted to race.

So I got pissed off and pressed the loud pedal, and need I say I lost him real fast?

...that's what I thought, the same jerk found me again later on that evening...and began tailgating me again...*sigh*...some people never learn, I had to pull over to get rid of him...wrong again...he also pulled over, and unsurprisingly enough a "gang" of young lads jumped out of the car and started asking me about the car..how fast is it...blablabla...I answered politely and soon when they discovered that I wasn't out to race, they left.

Shouldn't have gone fast in the first place, might have been lucky enough to be left alone then...ah well the next time I won't be as easy to irritate.

The fun thing is that they tried to race me in a Vauxhall...can you guess...yes a Nova...with 4 lads in it...how stupid is it legal to be?

Like many of you here I get the occasional buffoon who wants to tailgate, undertake or whatever, but I try to be good and get out of their way.

Some days however I am not in the mood and do my best to teach them a lesson. This is easy if bends are involved as even with my mediocre driving ability the Scoob can be made to go very fast round them. All the better if the baboon doing the tailgating doesn't see the bend properly and finds himself hurtling round a bend he's not prepared for. This usually only happens if they are driving a BMW 318 though, must be too busy reading the Top Gear accolades and marvelling over the near perfect 50 50 weight distribution - ha ha!

As a slight aside it is interesting to note the different behaviour of drivers when I am in my Elise. In the Scoob I can come up behind a car on the motorway and they invariably won't move out of the way for some time no matter how fast my speed of approach. In the Elise it's like the parting of the Red Sea - everyone just scatters. Don't know why this is as I think a Scoob looks far more menacing in the rear view mirror, but then there's an awful lot I don't understand about life so I'll add it to the list.

Regards,

tiggers

But is a BMW less attractive to vandals in Birmingham ?

Seriously though, my "sister in law" took delivery of a brand-new 3 series the week before the Rover episode - she lives 3 miles from Longbridge and doesn't have a garage.... Ooops.

Thankfully, she has been lucky so far but it just goes to show that other cars can be just as much a concern as Scoobs!

Thanks

Gavin

Hmm, not all 'N' reg drivers are the same!!
I've had my modified UK N reg scooby for nearly 2 years, I had to save for over a year to buy it (at the time they were hard to get hold of and my N reg cost £16995).
I have just turned 20 so you can imagine the insurance!! Because of this I just can't afford to take liberties with my car, I'm probably the slowest scooby driver around! With £1,000 XS I can't afford to end up with it smashed to bits!!
I do hate it though when some ba**ard comes up and just sits on your ****! Bum bandits

On reason I bought the BMW over a CLK Merc at the time was because of the links with Rover, I thought I was doing the local economy a favour....I have had no trouble touch wood, even though I have to travel and leave my car in the Rubery/Longbridge area two or three times a week associated with work meeting.

Its funny when I had a scoob I never had access to this site so did not really know the thoughts of other scooby drivers as regards BMW's. I do have contact now with other BMW drivers through other groups and if its any consolation they tend to look upon 318's with scorn like you do. I recently had a 318 while my car was being serviced and they are OK....thats all really.

Look let's get this sorted out. I don't know about everyone else, but I am not having a go at BMW's - they are just over rated cars and that's not their fault. No, my gripe is with the drivers of these vehicles who think they've bought something they've not.

Let's face it - I'm under no illusions - I have a Scoob which in comparsion to some other vehicles (BMW's included) has a poor interior, is made out of somewhat thinner metal than the average bean tin and drinks petrol. But I knew all this when I bought it and I don't care because it drives brilliantly and is well constructed in the places that matter most to me (engine, chassis, transmission etc.)

However BMW man buys his car because it has a BMW badge which he thinks makes it the best drivers car on the road because that's what the ads and the salesmen tell him (you know - 50/50 weight distribution, rear wheels for driving, front wheels for steering - all that crap).

So he's out in his driver's dream when a Scoob or whatever tries to get past - he knows he has the best drivers car so he doesn't let them by as what's the point - he's in the better car. That my friends is the problem.

It's like people who buy B&O hi-fi - someone says it's the best so it must be the best - they don't actually sit and listen to it against other makes - no they just buy it because they know it's the best.

Hey, I wonder how many BMW drivers have B&O hi-fis - now there's a research project if ever there was one.

Regards,

tiggers.

P.S. The above doesn't apply to all BMW drivers or all BMW models, just most of them.

I read the first 5 replies and didn't have time to read the rest (I have alot of studying to do for my ATPL's!!). My advice to you in this scenario is do what i do - drop down to a slow speed where they really get quite pi'sed off, i.e 30mph zone, a white van comes up behind me and sits 2 meters away.. select 2nd gear and go along at 15-20 mph , it's really quite funny plus all the people walking by get an extra few seconds to praise your car (if it's polished of course!)
Ian

PS- someone is bound to tell me this is illegal, well i have this view... 30mph zone.. going past a cyclist, bus coming the other way- I drop down to 20 and pass the cyclist slowly while the bus passes. Out runs a little girl from behind the bus straight in front of the scoob... I have time to stop with a large distance to spare....If i'd been doing 30 it would have been questionable... (the little girls mum walks into the road , takes the little girls hand and walks off, no worried look/no wave) - Unbelievable!

Cool

In Birmingham it is usual for a 10 year old 1.3 Nova SR to take on Imprezas - always good fun (let them get ahead and then blast past giving it the full moo).
