Rolling Road Day - 24th Jan 2004 - G-Force Motorsport
Nice day......... good to see a few familiar faces......
And yes for those of you who have seen the car before I DID NOT make it home again wihout the headers going again...... think they were ok on the run - but they were again like a tractor by the time I hit Oxford! - and then I had to get to Bristol..... cant see any lose bolts so I'll assume its something to do with GRUPPE -S headers being total focking sh*t - DO NOT BUY these headers they will make you want to kill your car!!!
Anyway - good day - cant wait to put on a proper Turbo then I might make reasonable numbers on the rollers instead of 419bhp - dont think G Force were too happy with me getting that sort of power on a small turbo
At least I've seen another outfit working - what an odd place to have 8 injectors on a 400bp car just to control the fuel idle...... ah well....... nothing wrong with my idle on 740cc injectors.........strange is all I'll say

Pictures here Thanks to Cliff for being there all day to take them
Fangoria - sorry to hear about the headers
- but at least it gives you an excuse to do more to the car...

I think my mod days are now numbered on the Scoob. Not much more I can do to it - except put on a huge turbo - which I may do - but then it wont be as driveable on the road....... maybe a few £k and thats it..... I think I said the same thing £30k ago
I keep thinking about a nice modded Porsche Turbo - but I need to win the lottery first!

Nice one Steve
i know what to aim for now
what torque did you make???.... I'm not sure i like your advice about the Gruppe-S headers, you was the one that told me to get them!
Picking my car up next week, so i will have to see what it will do!

Si Burt, I think the torque was 305 ft lb at 4500.... My boost is all over the place tho so def having tek 3 now... and then GEMS..
Pro drive do state that the figures they have are easily re creatable in normal driving conditions
Deryck yeah decat and rear resonator removed too... oh and a ITG filter..
Gonna get a cold air feed as temps were too high

thank you all for being nice to Kate as I had to work and she didn't want to take the car by her self.
Shame that I couldn't make it, but does anybody have a list of all figures?
Thanks again
Robert

Scott - Torque was a paltry 362lbs I think
Re Gruppe S - maybe you'll have nore luck than me - about a 50/50 success rate. I'll be having them off and machining them
Bizarely enough the power figure at G Force was the same as Powerstation
Maybe I need some Tolulene (sp?)!!!!

Morning Guys!
As NaTurbo2000 said - the Local Power supply failed just as we had strapped down and wired up my car (5:30pm)...... so we couldn't even see the sheets and obviously the computers were dead!
- My car is obviously jinxed / worships the Devil.
If you haven't sent me your number plate already - please do so (as this is how G-force saved the computer files).
Will try and get everything started today!
Some good figures produced on the day - and obviously my commiserations
to those who didn't get what they wanted - but at least we know the rollers are probably the most accurate in the country. There was a close correlation with those who went to Power Engineering, so theirs on a given day are pretty good too.

Chris - oh yeah, forgot about that!
Well I thought I'm going to get blown into the weeds - so I might as well give it the full 259bhp .....
- Had just been in convoy with V5Man and Naturbo2000 too.
*** As you may have gathered the "Mad" element applies to the driving style - not the personality! ***

VELRYBA:- Interesting engine conversion. I like it. here's me thinking that its some standard uk turbo and Low & behold 304BHP
Very sweet.
I had a chat with Kate and her mate 4 quite a while. Ur lucky that u have a woman that likes cars. Mine rams her fist down my throat as soon as i even mention the word car.
Say a big hello to them both from me.
Mark- Great organised day even though I'm a Honda driver. Spot-on.
Cheers,
Marc

Marc>
thank you for the compliment, yes I cannot complain
and I would past the regards
I know the car looks VERY slow and underpowered
but mind you it's still fairly standard and it has a long way to go as the engine had only standard mapping done so we can drive it and now the "tweaking" will be done
MadMark> you have mail
ALL> can somebody tell me what are those numbers at the bottom of the sheet (IT, RT, RH etc.)?
Thanks
Robert

They def. measure inlet temp as well as air/fuel ratio - but the air fuel is done on a seperate graph
Figures look reasonable for IT and RT (it was cold!)
I guess one of the figures is engine revs/wheel revs ratio, cos they set that up on a per car basis
+ guess they ought to state what they measure transmission losses as (cos they measure power at wheels and scale up)
Just guesses and don't know which is what

Steve/Fangoria:
You got 419 bhp?. Yes? Were you joking when you said torque was paltry? Pretty good result I would have thought.
Are you on one of Andy f's turbos? I would think a lot of people would like these results for not a lot of outlay, relatively speaking, for a turbo.
You made reference to lag or poor spool or tractability from a bigger turbo but that does not need to be the case. Come for a drive in my STi Wagon and find out for yourself. I have had a car here for the last week for a re-map and some other work. It has an MD 304. Nothing below 3000rpm in 5th. 1bar at 3.4 and starting to runout of puff shortly after 5.5k. ie a narrow powerband. The bigger Ion Turbo on the STi wagon is far more tractable with a powerband more than twice the width.

Can tell you what "shootout mode means:"
looking on dyno dynamics site, I think RP is Air Pressure
Shootout mode was introduced by the Dyno Dynamics people to lower discrepencies between dynos. It prevents the operator entering his/her own constants. So 100kW on my dyno should be 100kW on yours

You had an unlucky day then
