So, which Swissol products do I need? Currently use AutoGlym Super Resin Polish and High Gloss Protection. Have also used Turtle.
Everyone seems to really rate the Swissol Stuff, but which products should I be looking to get for my Silver MY02 Impreza?
There seems to be a huge difference in price between waxes in the range. Which one is the best price/performance?
How do you normally prepare your car?
Normal wash, polish and then wax, or just wash and wax?

McGuirs is good but it is still a polish. Not recommended on a new car. The white residue that you get with ALL polishes is clay, the finer the clay the less abrasive is the polish. The clay adds bulk and acts as a carrier for the other ingredients. With the glazes, either Swissol or Zymol they contain no abrasive fillers at all and just add shine. You could even put them on grained plastics and they will not leave that awful white marking (its clay)You will not need a wax on the top of the glaze, as they have a high percentage of Carnuba wax which is what provides the protection against UV, tree sap bird sh*t etc. Carnuba wax is the best and most expensive of the waxes.
Seriously if you have ever only used polish give the hand applied glazes a go, you will be amazed. The Zymol starter kits are well worth using.
Once you have protected your car then make sure you dont clean the protection off. Some of the shampoos can be very strong, so go for one by Swissol or Zymol that clean the dirt off but not the wax. An excellent tip is to use slightly less than is recommended, we tend to add another cap full in the water, thinking we are doing the right thing, use less not more. With the glaze on the car it will be so much easier to clean each time.
With constant polishing the car will over time lose its brilliant shine, the surface will resemble the surface of a skating ring, some scratches (swirls) are visible to the eye the others only though some form of magnification but they add up to lessen the reflectance of the surface. So do your self a favour dont polish, glaze

Alex - impossible to say of course. Bottom line though - it works!
rjlinney - if you want the mutt's nuts - claybar the car first.
Then use Medium Cleaner. Don't be shy - it isn't T-Cut.
Then use Teflon Wax. Twice. Leave in sun to harden.
Wash with the Car Bath (bath!!) regularly, using a flannel.
Easy!

I was only trying to give the person that had asked an idea of the differences of a polish/ glaze/ wax etc, not break into a manufacturer battle over what wax is best.
I do however completely agree, that using a clay bar as part of bodywork prep is a vital step to achieving an awesome finish!

A claybar in laymans terms is like a hi-tec plastacine. Using some kind of lubricant (some kind of quick detailing spray, a constant stream from the hose or even while your washing the car with a good quality shampoo), you gently run the clay bar over the suface of your car to remove embedded contaminants or things like tree sap, tar spots, or dried bug splats.
If you run your fingers along the bodywork and the surface feels 'gritty', then this is the kind of thing the claybar will help remove to give the 'smooth as glass' feel.

Spent a few quid on Meguiars a little while ago and found it to be a total waste of money.
Personally I will be getting Swissol next time, especially looking at the difference between a Swissol'd car and a Meguiars'd car.
What even you buy I would recommend you get a shampoo that won't remove your wax. Seems silly to spend hours getting your car right just to wash all that product off the car when you wash it.

I reckon you might be better off doing it the other way around. The preparation is possibly even more important in achieving a good finish than the wax. The Meguiars clay kit costs around £12 I think and will do that part of the job well. The polish you use will be a key factor in getting a good finish.
Don't forget, whatever stuff you buy, it usually lasts a long time and if you work it out, it's really not that expensive. Even at £130 that's only £2.50 a week to keep your pride and joy looking as it should.

If you go to the expense of buying a Swissol wax, washing the car with Turtle Wax will wash all your expensive wax onto the floor, seems like a waste of time and money.
If your going for Swissol you really want the car bath to wash the car (and not strip off the wax) and use the cleaner fluid (cleanser) to get the paint nice for your first wax.
You only need cleanse twice a year and waxing once a month will make the car look V.nice.
If these 3 products are too expensive then you could consider buying the shampoo and cleanser from Meguiars and using a Swissol wax. The Meguiars shampoo will not strip off your wax each time you clean the car.
As you get into cleaning the car you might want to use a clay bar, but I wouldn’t bother for now, a great finish can be achieved with out one.

I was thinking I might buy the Cleaner Fluid and Samurai Wax on their own?
What about the paint rubber? Is this necessary? Doesn't come in the Samurai starter kit.

Samurai starter kit would be ideal.
Paint rubber is the clay bar and like I said it’s not vital, you can get it at a later date if you really think you need it.
Teflon is a different type of wax, you can also get this in a starter kit.
Samurai wax is ideal for Japanese car paint.

Anyone used Mer at all ??????? 
I was using Autogym but was not happy with the white residue it left in the difficult to get places, then i looked at Mer...
I use the shampoo and also you are able to add the polish in at the same time.... goes on strange as the polish kills all the soap suds but really does a great job, the water beads up nicely, great for the wheels.... it seems to stop the brake dust from sticking as it does.
I have used that £12 Zymol from Halfords but was not that taken, as they say you get what you pay for...... may well splash out on Swissol in the spring ready for next year
