Police Driver Training Cars
Most forces train to a standard of sticking rigidly to speed restrictions (30,40,50), however on an unrestricted road (ie national speed limit) there is often no ceiling on speed so long as it is safe.
Police cars travelling faster than the speed limit.
Generally police will fall under the same rules as everyone else (ie they can be flashed for speeding by cameras). If caught speeding they have to prove thier reasons, bearing in mind all emergency jobs will be logged by the force controller/computers).
On an emergency job it will be the officer's discresion as to use sirens and lights to warn other road users. What's the point of warning a burglar in the act that your coming! Often when emergency jobs come in all available units will shout up to go. If the controller thinks there are enough going they will start to cancell units - hence lights/sirens coming on only to be turned off seconds later.
