Steve, go to b and q and in the plumbing section you will see some end caps or bungs in the polypipe section. They do 22mm and 28mm i think, about 2 inch long, couple of quid at the most.

See if they will do and just use one of those with a jubilee clip to hold it in place.

I assume you are referring to blanking off the return to the inlet pipe from the dump valve.

Hi Steven,

I spent about an hour in B&Q on Saturday looking for something suitable and bought a selection of plumbing bungs/end caps but none of them fit properly!!!

Am I correct in thinking that that hose doesn't "suck", and that with the std recirc dv air is "blown" down it? And the only reason it needs blanking off is to stop debris getting into it? The reason I ask is that since I fitted the vta dv the car seems to make a kind of whistling sound (a bit like squeaky brakes) when driving normally, but not when idling. But maybe it's always been there and I've only just noticed it!

Did you go to Well Lane on Sunday? How was it??

Steve, that pipe returns to the inlet path just in fornt of the turbo, so if it is not blocked off it will be sucking in air, more importantly air unmetered by the MAF sensor, so get it blocked off ASAP, and that should also cure the squeak (leaking air).

Well Lane was good, car ran 361bhp

I HAVE blocked it off, but with a copper pipe fitting (don't ask ) so I'm not sure that it's 100% air tight!

tbh, I can see the std recirc going back on before long! How does your dv work with the fmic?

361? Was that on 4 cylinders or just the 3

I have a forge recirc type and it works very well with the setup i have. They are very good for the standard cars, i believe.

Sadly the 361 was on 4 cylinders

Any pics on here of under your bonnet? I can't remember how yours looks!

Anyway the good news is Forge supply replacements blanking plugs at the very reasonable price of £4.50 + vat + delivery.

As for that squeaking sound, I went out for a spin at lunch and I'm now convinced it's nothing to do with the dv and is in fact something to do with the brakes. It's impossible to tell where it's coming from tho whilst moving! It's only apparent when the car is travelling over about 15mph but is not affected by pressing the brake pedal or applying the handbrake, and is constant whether the engine is at revs or coasting on tickover.

Hiya Paul - thought you'd deserted us!!!

Feeding the geese in East Park? You didn't get savaged by any donkeys then??

I've just realised that Ads posted that he is going to Zeebrugge, then in a later post said he'd sorted out the insurance for his "Dutch Dash"?? But isn't Zeebrugge in Belgium??? I hope he's insured himself for driving on the roads in the right country

Morning All

Pum - the grille is all sprayed chrome and now has the SUBARU in gold! Looks pretty good

I serviced the dump valve last night and put the blue spring in and went for a drive. I am 90% sure that the car now occasionally spits flames I used to get the pop-pop-popping when decelerating but last night as well as pops I got some loud BANGS at certain times which I'm sure was unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust. Ooooooooo!!!

I'll have to get someone to drive behind me and see if I'm right.

Glad to see you made it back in one piece How many miles did you do on the wrong side of the road?

It's my birthday on 9th November so some time around then would be a good enough excuse for a pi$$-up

Mornin All!!!

Took the car out for a spin up to Scarborough yesterday to remind myself how much fun it is to drive . Two things tho - there is a squeal coming from the brakes continually, whether I'm pressing the pedal or not, and under hard acceleration I get a bit of a hiccup/misfire at certain revs. Nothing major but obviously not quite right!

That's what I thought - that they're just about sh@gged. Last time it went for a service they said I needed new discs and pads so I'd best get some ordered!! Is there a built in wear indicator thing that squeals when the brakes need changing? I know there was on one of my previous cars.

I might change the plugs as well to see if that gets rid of the misfire. And that's not a straightforward job either!!
