I do have a life outside the gym If I go along and so a pyramid chest press, tri pull downs, fly, shoulder press, inclined chest, etc then I'll still get a good workout just not as brilliant as if I stripped the weight back down in the same way I built them up.

I thought you COULD NOT overtrain in any given session. In otherwords you could utterly destroy your muscles and not be able to lift your own hand but you'd be fine provided you eat and rest correctly?
Could bodybuilding be the sport with the most conflicting advice ever???? Every site I've been on seems to contradict the last. I think I'll strip it back to basics. Lift weights - lots off, eat - lots off, rest - lots off: From there nature will do it stuff

You're right Kenny, at the end of the day it's what works for you. I can only tell you what brought *me* competitive success, but it isn't necessarily applicable to everyone. Give all options a try, and see which ones you feel you benefit most from. After all, if you're making progress, you'll keep doing it, and after all's said and done that is the key!

Saxo Boy, dont get too bogged down and worried about the latest scientific literature and advice on muscle building and exercise...
Just get in there, do a good solid hour, and get out! Eat well, rest well...and be patient!
I had a mate who used to spend hours reading stuff on bodybuilding etc, he could spout off allsorts of theories on technique, recuperation etc. They way he'd preach you'd think he was a guru...he was built like a stick, all 10 stone of him . If he spent as much time in the gym as he did reading up he'd have done well! Of course there's nothing wrong in knowing your stuff but dont get too bogged down, especially when you're at beginner/intermediate level.
For what it's worth, I've read stuff that suggests that muscle fibres can actually be created when intense muscular contraction occurs between the two sliding filaments of a muscle fibre...I think the two filaments are called actin and myosin which form a 'bridge' when muscle contracts...that's from memory (A level biology ) so i could be wrong but it seems interesting...

Me Ma just cooked me, egg and chips with a battered chicken breast thingy....
Have I just caused World war 3 by refusing to eat it.
Was it worth taking a stand
Still trying to drum it in that I want more healthy grub from now on.....

if u want size and definition u still gotta lift as heavy as poss
but combine it with a fair bit of cv to shed the body fat
also what we ususally do is train heavy for 3 weeks of the month then train high reps for the last week
but i mean really high like sets of 20 till ur muscles are on fire and ur begging to get out of the gym
and to super si
yeah sounds good m8tee but cut the salad cream:]
too fatty
try natural yoghurt with pepper and vinigar
not quite the same but better than dry tuna
or if u like the taste try tuna and horsradish
not much fat in it.

no offence si but i'm sure in one of the other threads you stated your squat at 150kg? (under 200kg) anyway, thats not a lot for a strength contest,
sorry if i.m wrong, i've only seen one contest live but their weights were quite a bit more
