FPMSL! that made my day!

 

 

My Grandmother lived next door to probably the most famous of all disfigured people...John Merrick, otherwise known as The Elephant Man.

She often told me of the torment he suffered and how he dreamed of being ble to lie down properly to sleep. She was a good friend of his right up til the day he committed suicide.

The lady on the programme this evening is brave to stand tall infront of the camera, knowing full well that there will be people mocking her affliction.

John Merrick did the same, he too was called a 'freak' but he had dignity, as does this young woman.

We all should have the dignity to treat her with respect because one day we could have an accident and end up facially disfigured too, I for one would hope that people would treat me with more respect than some treated John Merrick and others like him.

She said she didn't want pity or sympathy and that she is quite happy the way she is. So where's the harm in a bit of a rib tickle?

 

The Robbie Williams concert was just a bit of fun too but it didn't stop you getting all "high and mighty" did it?

It is different when you are right there in this kind of situation.

My sister "looks" different to other people, she has almond shaped eyes, a tiny nose, due to her genes she struggles to keep weight off so is short and on the chubby side (doing a damn fine job keeping the weight off though ), her feet are disfigured and look odd, she can't walk properly and struggles with conversation.

Walkng down the street with her, we face all kinds of torment, some like posted here, some nastier, mostly stares and whispers.
The thing that riles me the most is that due to her Down's she doesn't understand that people are being nasty, hateful and taking the **** out of her.

On the other hand, it is a blessing she doesn't know.......

Best of luck to this woman for doing what she is doing, I sm sure she is in full knowledge of what reactions she will get.........however, it doesn't make some reactions acceptable.

That's my two cents.

i can appreciate that the comments on here are harsh unfair etc but it was the initial comparison with a mere bo's comment that took me a while to work out [not brain gifted] & then made it so amusing. Resoect to those who have to live thru this kinda thing. But i still find the hole PC thing some were doing on last nights proggy ironic for example the surgeon getting a pasting from that chap because he had a charity to "help" those with different faces calles saving faces which the bloke didnt like & wanted changing. Now if you are perfectly happy with the way you look & dont need or want this blokes help then fine but how can you then be so easily offended by the name of an organisation trying to help those who do! Each to their own & that includes opinions etc but the woman with cherubism was nieve in that while it is harsh the way people will treat those that are different generally they wont change as it is a natural reaction & well good luck......

I thought that surgeon fella was superb. Miss Lightyear did have a bit of a chip on her sholder (couldn't see it for the chin). Get the whole world to change because I don't want to. It's never going to happen, for the same reason people pay no attention to mundane cars but when a Scoob(Skyline) goes past they all stare, it's the same thing. Does she object to people staring a beautiful people also?

 

Well you are all trying to justify your attempts at cheap jokes at her expense. There is no way you can justify those comments at her appearance. There have been some very good replies with respect to your egregious behaviour. You should hang your heads in shame.

Sit down and take a look at the world you live in. If no one passes comment on anyone or has a joke at anyone elses expence......can we all come and live in your world ?

You can't have a mahoosive chin and expect people to not bat an eye lid, it's her that should get a grip Fair play to her though, she's getting on with her life, if she doesn't want surgery that's fine by me, I see no reason why people who do want surgery shouldn't have it though.



PS I'm gonna spend the rest of my life skulking about, looking down at the ground, not making eye contact with anyone, I'm also not gonna speak ever again for fear of upsetting anyone....sorry to take up so much of your time reading this post, sorry
