Be careful when considering the Powercolor card shown in that link on the last page. It has been overclocked at the factory for 20mhz more on the core and 60mhz on the RAM. The card uses the very rare Hynix 2-2.2ns BGA modules as opposed to the normal Samsung or Hynix ones.
These were/are a limited run, as Hynix cannot mass deliver them. Virtually all of the off the shelf ones now use the same RAM and standard timings on core too. Powercolor seem to have reserved what is left of the 2.2 Hynix for their' gold' card apparantly.

The performance figures there should be taken with a pinch of salt, as they do not accuratly represent what you will get if buying a Powercolor card today.

Cheers,

Nick

memory isnt that expensive, the 256mb is just more exclusive and they sell less so therefore have less buying power on them, hence lower margins and higher selling price, just business I reckon! besides, at most places the prices are more evenly matched, its just with the ones these guys have found the 128Mb is particularily cheap

Just being chatting

its going to be £270 inc p&p since there are quite a few. If it was one address then itd be cheaper but obviously they are being distributed.

This would include
  • 9800 Pro 128mb Saphire card
  • p&p
  • Payment Via cheque or Direct Debit into their account

This ok with everyone??

Agreed that CPU city are very good and honest people. Happily use them for quite a few things and good service IMO.

Sinky, I am confused. So you want the powercolor one and not the Sapphire or what?

I take it that you read what I said about them?

Cheers,

Nick .

nick i want the saphire card but i want to make sure i wont get shafted for £20 courier delivery to northern Ireland. alot of prices seem reaaly good on mainland websites until you get to the p+p then they slip an extra £15-20 on the price.

for example i wanted the asus i-panel. Scan seems to be only people who do it (that I can Find anyways). cost of i-Panel £17 odds, cost of p+p to NI £15.

if i can get the saphire card for 270 then i will buy one.

cheers

Just thought i'd add that Halflife 2 has now been delayed too so i'm bowing out, no point going from a gf4 to a next gen card because all that power will go to waste, gonne pick up a £150 one in new year when the games are out which use it.

Still, you've done your research and put together something which looks like working, congrats.

si - sorry to disappoint you, but I will also give it a miss this time (i was only a 'maybe' anyway!!). I'm not in a rush to buy, and the discount isn't enough to persuade me to go for one now.
thanks for your efforts so far

Oh, before you shoot off home,
Can you give a reason for not going for the 256 sapphire card and instead opting for the 128 ?

I know the link to the benchmarking did show very little to be gained by the extra ram but just wanted to check there was no other underlying issue with it (like a poor chipset or something, as with the power colour one !!)

Cheers

I am mailing a nice grovel to overclockers to see what discount I can get on the ""whole kit and caboodle"
