If you go winter driving with the scooby, remember the STI won't allow 15" rims, as the WRX does.. Try driving on sloppy snow with 225x45x17 (or something)! I was told an STI owner here in Norway actually is downgrading his breaks to allow 15" rims for winter driving, as he was sliding sideways in 5'th on snow with no grip..

Why is the WRX PPP faster than the STI ?
Well, I have no experience with either the STI nor the WRX PPP kit, but I do believe the STI has a bigger sized turbo and intercooler -> more turbo lag & slower response.. I could be wrong though.

Question

Why not just put snow chains on? Damn site cheaper. That's why the STi has such a big gap between the wheel and the arch to accommodate snow chains for countries that require them.

For performance and VFM, JDM STi would be my choice. Or an Evo.

For VFM with less priority on performance a UK WRX at the right money is pretty good.

For a car to modify the nuts off, Evo.

Spen555 - going off the thread slightly, but there's no comparison between chains and snow tyres if live in genuinely snowy conditions eg Alps or Scandinavia. The difference they make in snow or slush is quite amazing.

Haven't tried on Scooby as reside in sunny Kent, but many years ago snow tyres meant my 205 1.9GTi was actually driveable in Alpine snow.(bring back torque steer - all forgiven).

Chains should be seen as last resort/ get you home on that odd occassion it dumps in UK.

Should imagine Scooby on snow tyres quite impressive and great fun.

Red face

Prodrive have published the performance figures of both. Has been posted before, but

WRX PPP STI
0-60 4.8 5.17
1/4 13.7 13.99

To look at the full comparision :

http://www.prodrive.com/uploads/03MY%20STi%20PPP.pdf
http://www.prodrive.com/uploads/03MY%20WRX%20PPP.pdf

I am posting from an unbiased point of view as normal. Tomorrow my money will go down an another Scooby. If I can find a very cheap STI with PPP that might win. Otherwise just looking a pure performance if its WRX PPP vs STI std I will go with the quicker WRX.

For people that still cant grasp it, the WRX is ligher. Look at the graph overlays and you cant miss the power and torque advantage of the WRX PPP vs a bog std STI
