Ijust went ballistic with Amex for bothering me on my mobile when I was in the States. Asked them NEVER to do it again after the last time... Should claim fhe cost back really but d9nt need the hassle. I therefore have as little an issue with the guys here who wind these tozzers up. They dont give a damn about the people they harass after all... I am a person not just a number!

Just ask them lots of questions about their gentitals and sound really obsessively interested - they don't call back often, I think you get flagged up as weirdo on their shared databases.

Tiggs, I dont quite understand your comment. I was objecting to the method of advertising, and I dont support the invasion of my privacy. I dont object to advertising in the written media of course and if I need an article I can easily look up which firms can provide it and then contact them myself. Thus those in advertising have not wasted their time in that respect. If I dont want a particular article then I have the choice of not bothering to read about it. I hope that makes my feelings clear.

Tim, that was classic

Hey

I work for a very well known health club brand and in that we have the membership sales dept. that have probably got all of your numbers from a series of databases that are freely available to puchase by any registered company.

From the very first time you sign a credit agreement/contract/emailing list and DO NOT TICK THE LITTLE BOX in the small print which states something like if you dont mind our partner companies or other carefully selected companies (read highest bidder) to contact you please tick here, then basically you are giving your permission for you details to be passed onto any number of advertising and marketing companies for whatever use they see fit.

the best idea was stated buy someone in the beggining
http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/
with this you can request to be removed from mailing list, the only other thing is to always tick the box and then legally your info cannot be passed on at all.

regards

Steve

I politely tell 'em I'm not interested. After that if they persist they're fair game. They're only doing their job but the pushy ones sometimes need some help to get the message.

I'm not advocating bieng nasty but if you say....
"well i'd like to speak but i'm a bit busy right now...err..i know, give me your home number and i'll call you later"
....they may get the idea that most people don't like these calls.

I always tick the box specifying no crap from other companies but we are still getting calls for the previous owner(we moved in 18months ago).Cheers for whoever suggested telling them you rent-it worked a treat. As soon as I said that, they said ok..click..dialling tone.
They called yesterday(ie sunday)is that allowed?

We get these all day long at work, and after insulting a few of them, it becomes a bit boring....

I know it's cruel, but what I do know is the following:

Caller: "Hello, I'm calling from x company, and I'd like to talk to you about etc etc"

Me: "I'm a little too busy to talk right now - can I have your number and I'll call you back a bit later?"

Total confusion reigns, and I haven't been nasty at all - rest assured, the calls stop from each of the companies!

Cool

LOL. As I suspected, loads of stories about wasting their time, calling them back, etc., etc. All very funny, but not half as funny as just registering with the TPS and never getting called again.

I just got my moneys worth from them -

home TPS,MPS

Work TPS,MPS,FPS

if it works I'll be well chuffed especially at work - I am sick to death of t0sspots ringing me all day to ask if I nam interested in investments/pensions/this/that/theother.....

And the fax machine gets battered by spam..

I specifically told my old bank TSB that I never wanted them to call me at home. I put it in writing and got their confirmation.

Then one night phone rings, wife answers and calls me from the garden "Its the bank on the phone!"

"Good Evening Sir. The manager has asked me to call you about our new range of pension schemes.."

Me "No he hasn't. You have not checked my file properly. Please let me have your name"

Phone up the manager in the morning and he credited my account with £25 for the inconvenience.

Play it straight and don't be childish
