Have to admit that when I was a student I worked in McD's. I NEVER eat anything from there or any where else I can't see them preparing my food. You would not believe some of the things I've seen.

Remember the people working there are either no hopers, no hoper students (me), care in the community cases or worse teenagers doing a Saturday job. They get crap pay and are regarded by most customers of the place as little more than slaves to be abused at will.

A common trick was phlegm in a burger for those awkward sods who wanted a special order which meant more work for the lazy gits like me in the kitchen. If you see the monkeys from the kitchen peering through at you when eating your food then suspect the worse!

Forget complaining unless you like your food to have made a trip to the floor or salvaged from the bin.

You have been warned!

You must have worked in the same places as me

seriously if a person has had a 100 burgers you can virtually guarentee that perons has eaten another persons bodily fluid

you are so right about the people who work there, they dont give a **** about hygeine and no pride in what they do...it's boring work and gobbing in a burger bap is fun and it hardly takes a genius to work out why someone takes a paper cup to the bog and the subesquent 'guessing' who's got the 'deposit' in the mayo?

Hey breaks up the boredom

seriously people you have been warned, take it from the people who know

I think you'll find all of this also applies to none fast food restaurants too, so you can't just discriminate against them. Studied catering for HND - suprised I still eat out anywhere after that! Only way is to cook yourself

Right - just off for a Big Mac..............

Nah McD's and other burger bars are worse, I only eat in good places now and mostly where you can watch them making it!

No fast food for me any more, except fish n chips and I watch them batter it then fry it, can't be any safer than that. Mind you the batter is always pre-made.

And how many places are there where you can see exactly whats going on? Even if you can see, they have probably prepared stuff which you couldnt see them make. Also unless you see them wash their hands etc your a bit stuffed.

Im sure it goes on all over the place. Ive seen a proggy on Bravo all about it and remember some bakery employees getting peed off cos they had to stay behind another hour to make an order for a solicitors company - one guy was caught on film pissing in the dough - I kid you not.

Who is to say that the guy who packed your chicken at tescos, hadn't just had a sh*t and not washed his hands, or that the machine that puts your baked beans in a can wasnt contaminated? You lot are the new breed of worry merchants. If it tastes good eat it - dont analyse it

Simon.

Eating someone's plegm, bogies, gob or *** will most likely not hurt you unless they've got hepititus but do you really want to think you might have eaten another blokes batter??????

CC - my point is that unless you are extrememly meticulous and go to extremes like growing your own food etc, then there is no way to ever know what is and isnt in your food - no matter where you get it from. So why worry?

spose you do have a point I guess

I think the problem for people who've worked in some of these types of place it's like you've seen all this stuff going on and you can't help but cast your mind back

I think the problem is that that type of stuff could happen anywhere. Ask yourself this question though are the type of people we know work at McDonalds going to be more likely to do that than say a professional chef? I would say yes as they have nothing to lose except their crappy McD job.

Plus the quality of ingredients, staff training etc is already guaranteed to be crap at McD's.

Why don't they ever look like that when you take them out of the styrofoam container?

They usually look like they've been stored in a sumo wrestlers fat folds.

I love Maccy D's, KFC, BK, fish 'n chips, in fact anything greasy and fast. Getting stressed about what might or might not have happened to it is pointless. The comment "If it tastes good eat it - dont analyse it" - never a truer word said.

I bet there's plenty of people here who've picked their ears/nose/****/armpits and then used the same unwashed hands to eat a burger. So what's the difference if it's your hand or somebody else's?

If you knew how any food was prepared, you'd never eat it.

Ask any worker in any restaurant, posh or fast food.. ask any worker in a food factory.. and they can give you 101 stories that'd gross you out.

Just eat it.

Ahh, a subject close to my (clogged no doubt) heart. Fast food.

Well, if we are talking UK, then it's got to be Burger King, much better than Maccy's, plus they do Onion rings too, mmmm. If we expand past the fast food joints then it would have to be a nice 1/2lb burger from my local kebab shop, yummy!

Now, if we start talking about the USA, OMG! How many different places! Lets say I've done a bit of research on this White Castle, Sonic, BK, MaccyD's, Jack in The box, Dennys, Wendys, Arbys, Steak n Shake, Hardees, and prob loads more.

My faves? well, Hardees monster burger is awesome, but it's a tie between that an Jack n the Box's Double Cheeseburger. mmmm. Yummy

As for Canada, well, bit more limited, BK is great, as always, but they have Wendys, which is cool, A&W is ok (good onion rings) New York Fries (no burgers but ooooohhhhh boy, yummy fries) Harveys, is ok but don't like it. So I think it's prob Wendys or BK. However, apart from burger joints I can highly recommend Zogys All Canadian Eh? burger with a nice Ceaser salad. Oh and you will find me in Zogys most lunch times

And before you ask, yes, I DO eat a lot of junk food, I have, more or less, lived on junk food for the past 16 years (I kid you not) so I do know a good burger when I taste one

So I think I can summise from all these replies is that even in somewhere like Starbucks/Pret or any other "coffee shop" you could still have the same person gobbing in yer sarnie.

I think one of the points i was trying to get at was that McDs has a unique taste (whatever it is) and people who become familiar with it over their lives will always go in there for a 1/4 lb McSnot with Spunk burger.

Let me put it this way - in comparison to some "posh" or even general restaurants I know of, Maccys and BK are superb in comparison. Its like cars, stereotyped - certain cars are expected to be driven by certain people, food/restaurants is no different with "hygiene" for word of mouth.

Someone always knows of a mate, or mate of a mate that **** in a burger and sold it or similar at these sort of places

I work for neither Maccys or BK, just pointing out they (although BK not quite as high as Maccy) are no worse than any other restaurant in there standards/hygiene Food wise, rarely eat them myself, enjoy a Big Mac or Chix Sanger now and then, and the saus and egg mcmuff but not very often!

McDonalds have bought into the 'coffee shop culture' anyway and have started opening 'McCafe' shops. There is one in Solihull.

Given that I work for a Local Authority I have access to the computer systems which log cases for planning, building control, environmental health, etc.

There is hardly a place to eat in the whole authority that doesn't have an environmental case somewhere in its history. 'Report of rat running over counter' in a chippy is one of my favourites!

Yup, you would never shop at Sainsbury's with some of the stories I have to tell you!!!!! Hence why I don't!!!!!

I realise that it will be the same throughout, but having been exposde directly to events at BK and in a JS warehouse.....I actively don't eat there as a result. With regards to the other places, I just pretend it doesn't happen.

I once visited a factory where they make kebabs...you know...those elephant leg thingies....tell you what....I will never eat one again.

Incidentally, did you know that McD's is the largest property owning company in the world....makes you think!
