I really can't see the significane of saying something along the lines of "isn't an escort (cosworth) just an escort" in a discussion about impreza turbos and escort cosworths .

A turbo'd impreza is based on a lowly family car too. As are most affordable sports car.

I like both by the way.

Cossies rule! Have owned both (scoob and escort) and would always put an escort first.

Leviathan, that is a real narrow minded view and imo makes you look an idiot.

Escort cossies only look similar to escorts but actually have little in common (as said before), I personal hate all the rivaly its ok to have a bit of banter but when people are ignorant it annoys me. I have a Big turbo Escort cosworth and love it its a bit laggy under normal driving but when you push hard it goes well its a stage 1 and i have took it to 145mph and it was still going which is good enough for me it also handles very well (has 18's suspension kit etc). I use it as a fun weekend car as it is expensive to run and i don't want to clock loads of miles on it. If i wanted an everyday quick car that is reasonably priced and ok to run then i would go for something like a scoob.

My Brother in law has one (Mudcuka) and i love it to bit's looks the part and goes well, all cars have trouble no matter what they are and what you have to rember is that some cossie now are getting on so there will be trouble (the first cossies come out in 1988 i think off the top of my head) to prove there was no hard feeling i even cruised to santa pod with a big convoy of scoob's to and RS day evein if i did feel like the rose between the thawns

I am very very tempted to change my RB5 for an Escort Cos. I love the RB5 to bits but the Escort is the car I always wanted but couldnt afford when it came out. I recently just missed out on an unmodified 18000 mile Cosworth.
In a lot of ways it is a bit of a backward step in terms of performance, reliability, etc and the chances of finding a genuine car are remote so I will probably stick with the RB5 but if the right car comes up at a sensible price it will be a very tough decision.

the rarity had good points and bad point an escort cossie is more exclusive and you will see one once in a blue moon, apart from the 22b all the scoobs look very similar where as if you see an escort cossie theirs nothing else that looks like it, but then my bro in law has been able to pick up loads of bits and pieces and sell bits and pieces as there is so many scoobs about, also i know there was 1000 P1s made but it seems like there were far more made as i see them quite often and i used to think seeing a P1 was an achievement but i seem them so often they don't seem that exclusive.

Agree with what you're saying about the Escort, but i would never wanna own one as the interior etc is just looking SO dated now!!

Not sure on the esc cos dash looking 'SO dated' heres a few pics of mine. I think the esc dash is pretty damn fine no?

Dated, over-rated, over-priced, tinny, chocolate bodywork 80s has been, and at the end of the day, its just an escort with a decent engine somone else had to build for them.
Give me a scoob everytime.
How pathetic are you ? i can see a whole load of Scooby owners actually saying that they would prefer an esc cos , or would have an esc cos. Your comments above are completley unfounded and untrue. The esc revolves around other items other than its engine! wake up and clear your pants out pls

I own two scoobys, and a couple of my mates own Escort Cossies. They both look nice but thats where the similarities end. The Scooby is a much better car. The only fast cossies are the tuned ones and they break down every five minutes.

my integrale evo 2 used to eat cossies round the bends and on track days....yes they're a bit more expensive to buy and run but they give probably the best steering feel of anycar, ever !..short of opening the car door and running your hand along the passing tarmac you aint gonna get more feel !!! they dominated the World rally scene for sooo long. Audi quattro's, metro 6r4's, etc all won a fraction of the races the integrale won.

plus they look like they're gonna eat pedestrians/trees/small animals when they're being driven....just about the best motor ever (providing you've got your own fully fledged abarth rally mechanic team safely on hand 24/7 for when it goes wrong).

80s?! Someone tell him when the Escossies were produced!

Frankly I went for an Escos (despite the fact that I could get two Scoobs for the price of one Cos ) because they are far rarer and have far mroe road presence.

If I see a scoob driving down the road half the time there's a driver that would fit in on the Saga insurance ads.

i looked at a few escorts before buying the scoob as i came from a saph cossie.
as a drivers car the scoob wins hands down.

only the 22B looks as good as the escort though!

IMHO

Cool

Jeeese you lot don't half get wound up! It always gets messy when the Dagenham Dustbin bit raises its head.

I sense that Cossie owners are unecessarily worried about the image. However I think Escort Cossies have an OK image now, better than the Sierras could ever dream of having.

But let's face it, an Escort (or Sierra) could never have won the JD Power Survey for customer satisfaction! An honest Cossie owner would admit that, however they were built in Germany so they won't go rotten like the rest of Henry's pre-2000 stuff. :-)

You are right, there are too many Scoobs on the road for their image to be protected, dare I say it they could be a bit 'common' on the road.

However, like the EVO, their engineering is awesome and should not be ignored. Producing that many at such a high quality (let's not forget that quality means good consistent panel fit and no squeaks and rattles) is a major feit.

Yeah, alright Dave, good point.

And I'm not slagging Scoobs, they have a good position in the market. Cheap rally road cars One thing I'll give ya is that they do sound gorgeous... but that's it. Even the four doors put me off.

Yeah come on guys!

As we are all meant to be enthusiasts on this site, we should all be able to see that both the Escort and the Scooby are great cars.

Everyone is entitled to there own personal prefenece beyond that.
It doesn't mean that the Scooby/Escort is a **** car!!

As for prices, true you can get some old dog wrx for 5k but you
can also get some old dog EsCossie for cheap too.

Sure nice EsCos's are >15k but Scooby's aint cheap either, Type Rs P1s RB5s are all that price and 22Bs put the Escort in the shadow.

none of us cossie owners are knocking the scoob, unlike a select few of scoobie owners on this thread knocking our cars.

were all in the same kinda boat at the end of the day, only yours has set of from the east so has a long way to catch up

It's always important to remember that Ford had to give the job of building proper cars to the Germans.

Escort Cossie = classic
Scoob = cult classic

IMO there is a difference, i.e. each Escort Cossie will be worth money in the future because, well because. Each 'normal' Scoob won't be but the whole Subaru thing is a cult and a great one at that. Full marks to Cosworth and Subaru for such top cars and Mitsa have done some damn fine stuff too, technically the finest (thats another debate!). Anyway, hopefully the 22B and P1 will be worth something as classics in the future too.

scoobs are taking a bit of a tumbling imo
but the cossies took that a while back and the cossies are doing ok now

clean looking lighly modded cars look the bollocks
saw a wicked white saph with a nice set of wheels and lowerd on sat nite, looked the bollocks
scoobs will be the same in a few years when all the numpties fitting neons and other lax bowels crap move on and start modding summit else

then u will have the proper enthusiasts, with genuinly nice cars, not maxed up kebab shop lookalikes

this thread reminds me of the KA one in the other forum, like i said in there, theres loads of bigheaded scooby driving idiots about who think there car is the be end of all other cars, they need to wake up and give themselves a slap, they dont drive the best thing on the road, they simply drive a "good" car

and cossies are good
just like evos are
just like integrals are
etc etc etc

Just been on parkers.co.uk so you can read 'em and weep yourelf

1996 N Escort Cosworth RS 70K miles cost new £24325 value now in A1 condition £12000 amount lost = £12325.

1996 N Impreza turbo 70K miles cost new £17998 value now in A1 condition £6430 amount lost = £11568.

Okay the Escort cost more but the impreza was faster and you save 6K which invested wisely over seven years at say 5% a year means you would have roughly £8500 + £6430 (for the scoob) = £15K

15K would buy you a lot of pie .

As I'm sure most of you are aware, I've owned quite a few cars, even a 330bhp 3 door cossie (for all of 30mins until the ****** broke down! ). I have always considered the escort cosworth to be somewhat of a rare beast, and to me personaly a very desirable car.

Scoobies are fantastic cars, but these days they are ten a penny, go out for a drive on a Saturday afternoon and you will see a couple of dozen subarus. I bet you wont see one escort cossie (cue all the jokes about this being because they are all broken down ), this is where the desirability lies, you don't/won't see dozens of them on the road, and this will increase the core desire of the car IMHO.

Same with EVOs, I've owned two of these, never seen another on the road..... try driving through a town in a scooby, only a handfull of people will look.... then try driving through the same town in a EVO5/6 and watch the lampposts take a pasting from open-mouthed shoppers Cars like the escos/scooby/evo etc. are there to offer a pure driving experience and to draw serious attention, scoobies have become too cheap now, all the barry boys are getting hold of them and somewhat polluting the name, had to happen really.

Personaly, I would take a well sorted subaru over a well sorted escos, one reason though, the noise The escos does appeal a great deal to me though and I am sure I will end up ripping about in one.

Escort cossies / P1s / 22bs / EVO 5/6 are rare cars, these are the cream of the crop and will always demand high(er) desirability and inflated resale prices.

Individuality costs.
