Mike, don't need the op. Got enough girlies here now all you RS types are posting!
*** licking? Yeah - but I'll do it on the track! By then I'll have 450hp, 'cos I just bought a mega new RS chip from Bollock5 Motorsports. Guy there had an RS and said it would be the best £200 I could spend. No bull - his mates got one on his fiesta and he can waste a fireblade with only half throttle. So start grovelling sucker!

Stef - as you always seem to think the Supra is a barge why not let the Supras join in aswell.

I can supply a stock Supra with no mods (so long as its soon), we can get a car with filter and straight through exhaust and then we can let the big boys join in with 600bhp plus. If you say NO then we will just have to assume you are scared. Go on, Go on, Go on.

i am not biased at all

but if the RS boys cant find a 540BHP cossie for cat 3 they aint trying very hard.

It would kick any scoobies **** no mater what the spec.

for the test you propose then a 4x4 cossie would be needed, in the real world though a 2wd cossie with that power would be quicker.

Mike.
Trouble overtaking ordinary Imprezas on the straight? How did you work that out?
Never mind.........
Besides, a Cossie with 10psi is more powerful than a Scoob with 13psi on paper, what are you on about? No standard Scoob will be running 17psi!
Any excuse eh?

Branners.
It was decided Scoobs vs Cossies as that's where the grudges lie. The Supra has never been classed as 'king', sorry!

John F.
I've left it up to the RS boys to pick their weapons.

Don't worry Stef, we understand. It would be truly horrible on the 1 mile test. Oh, the humanity of it... Come to think of it, it wouldn't be any prettier on the other tests.

Cossie and king go well together but cant think of anything for scooby, except "snack" once Bruce hits you with his 540bhp whale tail that hes trying to enter. He'll have to beat a very keen Mike to the cat3 position though!
I'm sure ages ago I remember a thead that Stef himself hinted to the fact that his ecu had been "tweeked".

Thumbs up

All,
For your information the power is not alleged, the car recorded 541bhp on the same engine dyno as mine did. However, the problem is putting that power to the ground (you saw how difficult it was for me with a mere 419bhp - just imagine another 122bhp!), so we want a car that is an all rounder not that will just do one thing well.....

Stef,
I was just going by what Charlie said, that if you got stuck behind anyone, you wouldn't have the power to overtake them "normally" and had to hang back and take a run up through the corner to build up the speed to sling-shot you past them. I'm not trying to cast aspersions on your car, just commenting on the fact of how you get passed people and that it is not under power that you do so, but by clever driving....
Catch my drift?

BLOODY HELL Look what happens when you don't check the BBS for a day something brilliant gets posted and I get left behind (not for the first time ).

I can't wait for this one it's gonna be great Hopefully I'll have a new Cossie by then and can come down and support the blue oval boys whilst they eat some Scooby snacks. For those of you who haven't seen Mikie R's car in action prepared to be amazed as a 10 year old Sierra kicks some serious butt
Sorry couldn't resist a little bit of stirring

It's gonna be one cool day, petrolhead heaven

So Mike, how are you and 'Car Crusher' going to decide who gets to represent the 'modded to the max' class? Quarter mile shoot out or pistols at dawn? (For those of you not familiar with the RS board, 'Car Crusher' owns an, alleged, 540bhp cosworth).

Stef - any chance the tests will mirror some of the old Performance car tests? I'd hate to see it develop into a straight line contest....

I'm looking forward to it anyway. I think we'll easily kick butt in the first two catagories but we'll be hard pressed to find a modded scooby that can match either Mike's or Car Crushers (at least, in a straight line).

I've spoken to Mark in Scotland, and he seems quite keen to take part, but it will depend very much on the timing of the event.

His car would probably better Mike's in a 0-60 sprint, and it should be close over the 1/4 mile (he has run in 12.something seconds, but reckons the car is capable of a low 12 or high 11 second run if the launch is good). I think over 1/2 mile and 1 mile sprints, the extra power, reduced frictional losses, better aerodynamics, and taller gearing should see the Cossie pull comfortably away.

Around the track though, I'd expect Mark's car to have the edge.

Question

Stef,

did you get a chance to speak to Mark ?

I don't event think his car will come anywhere near the beast that the RS boys have found!

What did you need to do to the internals to get that figure? Genuine interest.

Mike,

Just thought I had better have a look on the Scooby board to see what it was like, what a surprise..they talk rubbish on here too !!!..thanks for pointing out my bhp figures are correct.

OZ,

I always find it funny when people who's cars only ever see rolling roads ( not the most reliable of sources of power figures, as Stef seems at odds to point out !!) pour scorn on figures which have been proven, beyond doubt on the only proper way to get figures - on an engine dyno. Have a look at the figures on my website, and weep, knowing you will never have the same, due to having such poor build quality in your engines !!

The event is scheduled for early May, but unfortunately no spectators are allowed, as is the case with most magazine articles.
Only 'passengers' are allowed in the cars invlolved (I'm sure we could squeeze 10 in each car!! ).
The RS boys are moaning about Cat 2 saying they should be allowed to use a stage 1 chipped car (approx 280bhp!!!) as this would make it closer????
I've tried to explain that as it's a comparison between Cossies and Scoobs, it isn't supposed to be close!
Their Cat 3 beast sounds mental though, and our guy will certainly have his work cut out.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Stef.
PS We need reserves in each category, anyone?

Already indicated my readiness to be a reserve in the Standard/Unmodded section.

Stef,

regarding the 2nd group. I have read the comments on the RS site, that hardly anyone fits just an exhaust and filter on a Cossie, as it only adds about 10 - 15 bhp at most. In terms of peak power, this is about the same as what is acheived with anImpreza Turbo as well, so there isn't really any difference. I notice they say that 75bhp can be had with a Stage 1 chip, which is quite a bit more than the 10 - 15bhp increase on an Impreza with breathing mods.

My suggestion:

Why not have 4 categories instead of 3:

Cat 2 is just breathing mods as you suggested
Cat 2a permits a stage 1 chip as well. In the case of Imprezas, I would suggest either a UK car with Power Engineering Phase 1 conversion, or a Prodrive ECU, or Link ECU, or even an STi with just breathing mods.

Also, I assume the only cars permitted for groups 1 and 2 will be standard UK spec cars (what about a standard 22B UK or P1 for group 1 )

An ideal reserve for Group 2 would be Pete Croney's car, or one of similar spec with the uprated suspension, brakes and breathing mods.

Question

Stef,
I was also thinking along the lines of adding a category, but a 3rd one and moving the unlimiteds to Cat 4. However, I was thinking of comparing a standard engined STi (280bhp) with a stage 1 chipped Cossie (also 280bhp). But suspension and breathing mods allowed on both cars. This would give people an idea of how an import (which a lot of people are buying) stacks up against the normal Cossies (as most in the country have at least a stage 1 chip, so will keep the Cossie / import boys happy).

What do you think? (I know, I'm a glutton for punishment....!)

Car Crusher, no need to get quite so defensive, alleged means just that, if you have figures that prove it, its no longer alleged is it, but as we dont usually get a very positive response from the RS guys, except for maybe Mike R how are we supposed to find out ?

I only hope some of our lot are prepared to eat some humble pie, cos the big power cossies will eat us for breakfast, at the end of the day they were built to beat anything on the touring car circuit, and did so quite convincingly, so have a lot of very decent internals to start with. Except maybe the bits i worked on The only place we may stand a chance is on the handling front, and as these guys have spent a lot of money on their cars, they are going to be quite well sorted.

Blimey very controversial

Ian,

Just thought it was about time somebody wound it into Scooby owners on their BB. Makes a change from Scooby coming on the RS board and acting like big girls when they get stick for it !!!!...

Anyway if people checked their facts first, there would be no need to comment....
