Cumbrian Scoobs next meeting?
Abby
Just read the thread, will type this and look at the post...great...
Got the de-cat for the MY02 today from Stan Palmers...Traffic was bad, raining etc so not sure about performance but the SOUND has changed completely..I have read threads about a fluttering sound but it's like an old foot-ball rattle !! Wastegate Solenoid I gather ??!!!
I'm geting the EcuTek guy back to re-map, maybe we could sort out a day if you were thinking along thoselines?

Midlife, had a crack with Gussy on wednesday with a view to getting that bloke from Kendal up to do 3 or 4 cars one after the other in return for a much discounted price, maybe at penrith or somewhere like that. Watch this space.
Gussy, thats 3 of us now, can you think of anyone else who would go down the TEK2 route? (everyone i hope)

yeah its in the back of my mind but i won`t be breaking my neck to get brakes sorted, will stick some braided hoses on and some fancy fluid in soon and see what difference that makes.
Anyone know a good place for laser geometry setup in cumbria, got settings i want, just need a garage
Edited to remove my attempted funny comments, wouldn`t want to upset anyone......

thats him AFAIK johnboy. to be honest i only feel like paying something like £300 for a tek2, if we can get 7 or 8, or more cars then surely he`ll come down to that price. 2 grand + for a days work aint bad

Tek 2 groupbuy sounds good
shame mines Tek 3'd already

Tek 2 is just a straight exchange of the ecu with preset values, but with all the mods you guys are doing a custom Tek 3 would be better IMOA.
unless you all plan on that next

might be wrong but thought Gussy told me last wednesday that this Nick geezer can change parameters as he see`s fit, so maybe he whacks a TEK2 in a fiddles about with it a bit, which can`t be far off a TEK3. Hope he can do this coz my new little project will probably require a custom map to sort it out.
i'm not sure but i think you need a licence for every Tek map you program, and a Tek3 needs a lap top connected in the car whilst you drive through certain conditions, to achieve the best results.
Mine was done by John Banks in Dunfermiline, 130 miles approx. , 2 hours ish
It involved John re-mapping the ECU then us taking the car out for a blast , along some superb roads i may add , then John would decide with his knowledge and some input from me, what else could done to make it better
Then we would go out again , smart roads
, and decide afterwards if anything wasn't quite right or we felt could be better.
This continued until both he and myself were happy , then you get the pleasure of driving 130 miles home in your NEWcar

The reason i went for a Tek3 was because when i got the RB5 it didn't feel as responsive as my WRX was. The big thump in the back from the Big turbo just wasn't there, and i missed it
BUT IT'S BACK NOW
All map points are set within safe standards so there's no risk to your pride n joy, and if your not happy at the end of it John will change everything back as it was before, for no charGe AFAIK
I THINK HE ALSO MENTIONED HE WOULD ALTER THE MAP IF MORE MODS WERE CARRIED OUT

.
This re-map is best for cars with Mods already carried out, so the best results can be achieved from them...

Sorry about the delay...Wife's birthday yesterday and couldn't spend the evening on Scoobynet.
I have been into the tek 2 / 3 thing on the EcuTek forum..
Try http://forum.ecutek.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8
They only had one fixed (off the shelf) map, all other maps are at the discretion of the tuner.
Whatever the state of play with the Group buy I'm going to get him back to re-map the car folowing the de-cat. If I can do it on the same day as others then that would be a bonus.
Midlife..
Is it meant to be that loud now ??

sent john banks an e-mail yesterday to sound him out for maybe spending a weekend in cumbria mapping cars and to give a rough estimate on price per car if he fancied it, got reply today but don`t think he`s too keen and he didn`t mention a price, also said he could spend a whole day mapping a car thats had a fair bit done to it

Midlife, theres not a lot on offer from local "tuners". Nick seems to be the only one in the area. Think that is the penalty of living in an "isolated" part of the country!
IMHO you should get the car decatted then go for the TEK3. A custom map will be far better suited as it is done solely for your car. OK it will cost a bit more but it will be foolproof.
Abby, I can understand John not wanting to spend a weekend down here mapping loads of cars. It takes time and patience to map a car properly. There are too many people who think they can map cars and end up with a long list of blown motors and unhappy customers, thankfully John is not one of them. I imagine he would feel pressured if he was down here with a line of 7 or 8 cars waiting for maps, plus he'd not have immediate access to any gadgets he may need for doing certain cars.

Hey Rusty
Thanks for the "clicky"
Half an eye on "aliens" and half an eye on the thread..I seem to recall a guy similar to John Banks (Bob R) who does a similar thing.
AFAIK John Banks is a GP who does this sort of thing for the love of it.. which I guess is the best way to do things.
Steve Sherwens Pics look at Well Lane, Should have bought a DBM !! LOL at the white Classic with 400BHP !!

Hi guys. Thank you for your interest and email from Martin. I've never done a car with a Tek 2 as I can always get more out of them, except in one case where I was upgrading by post a Tek 2 which was overboosting in its original state and so I put it back to Tek 2 and charged the bloke nothing. But every car I have seen in the flesh I can always get substantially more out of than Tek 2. I am now equipped to do the WRX also.
I work from a map which was dubbed Tek 2.5 as my starting settings or as my postal map. Each car is a bit different, especially with different mods, so I get the boost right and then adjust the fuelling and timing to suit the individual car. On some cars the first reflash is correct, on others I've taken 3 hours on just a decatted car to get it perfect. You don't know until you do it. For decatted cars I run boost targets 2 PSI more than Tek 2 and leaner fuelling (still safe, not one car has suffered engine damage, not even my own running about 430 BHP and 390 lbft on standard UK internals - I don't recommend this BTW
). I retard the timing to allow this, and as a compromise between fuelling, timing and boost there are substantial gains from doing this.
Details are on my website about the postal maps and custom maps I do, plus a load more technical information (scroll past all the stuff trying to sell you stuff
) that you will find interesting/useful I hope.
I used to do some unrepeatable deals on price, but other companies got upset - I had fewer overheads because I am small and am not VAT registered. Since then I have worked to minimum RRP, but try to offer as much as I can for this in terms of free remapping if you go and make your car into a monster - which I am well equipped to deal with since I have taken the standard ECU to its high limits and am working on ways to get around them - ie now working with 740cc injectors for engine outputs in the 450+ BHP range, planning towards 4 bar map sensors for running 30 PSI boost, getting rid of the MAF sensor with custom electronics etc.
If I can offer any advice or service I am happy to try my best to help. In addition if you come for a map and you think it is not worth the minimum RRP I can charge then I put it back to standard and you don't pay. No one has taken this option for a custom map, 2 have done so for postal maps so far out of rather many more

Nice one John, 430 BHP and 390 lbft
If anyone does take up John's offer, then please note: After setting your car up to run at a fantastic new performance level, what does he go and do.take you out in his car

which then makes yours feel like a micra, well for 5 minutes anyway
I would highly recommend a Tek 3

got that many ideas in my head i need to take a crap with excitement!!!!! ordered induction kit, samco hoses and oil pressure and temp gear for SECS unit, trying to order a BPM large inlet pipe, and have a found a TD05 turbo at reasonable price, hopefully the right honourable John Banks will read this so i don`t have to type it all again and he`ll advise me on what else to do, i.e. injectors, STi 6 intercooler, fuel pump upgrade etc.
