Thumbs up

drive a slow ***** extender

You dont think that could be considered insulting?

If I could afford a 996TT, would I buy one? No, I'd get the GT3.

Anything can be considered insulting if you dont read between the lines...

Let me add the guy who won the Jap Gr.N championship last year also drove in another race series with a Porsche. The Japanese always are fond of Porsche.
Other race drivers get their Porsches cos they bought it with their own money, Nick Heidfeld bought his GT2, the late Roland Ratzenberger bought his own after clinching the drive with Simtek. Gerhard Berger got his before he was in F1.
IMHO, the 996tt is still far better than a F360. If Porsche's engineers are that bad, they couldn't have built a car that's faster than the F360. Remember, the F360 have the best-balanced chassis design (mid-engined), have a weight advantage of over 100kgs, & also have resources from Fiat for R&D expenditure.

Claudius, can you put my 'less gifted' (I presume as I think you're talking complete bolloks that I fall in that category) mind at ease -

Are you actually saying that an Evo is a better car than a 911?

If so, why?

Simple question, simple answer please

I doubt I can, given I do not think it would be able to grasp my words, telling from you stupid replies above.

Basically: yes. Although that depends on what you want from a car, obviously. I personally want performance, so clearly the Evo is superiour. Not so in top speed or straight line acceleration (from a certain point on anyway) in standard form, but that can be changed by modifying the Evo. And it will only cost half the money, if at all.

Hooray, a sensible answer - see you can do it btw, it's ok you can use big words with me - I may just be able to understand.

When you 'get' the whole supercar thing you may change your mind, but until then enjoy your EVO - undoubtably the fastest car in the real world, A-B.

I didn't reply up to now because i find this thread totally idiotic i think it should be moved to the muppet show or make a new thread called the "HOW STUPID ARE YOU?"

The results of this thread are: According to mycroft a 996 Biturbo the ultimate sports car in the world is crap slow and old looking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.I'm sitting on my chair thinking: What the hell? One of the ultimate fastest/sexy/awesome looking car in this world is a 996 BITURBO you only say this because you don't have the money to buy it or you are totally stupid and you don't know **** about cars

PS Mycroft your Soarer is the best looking car ever made did you know that?

seem to be forever supporting him but I think mycroft is right.

dont give a damn about comparing with cheaper cars.

Purely from a point of view of design, the layout of the 911 is flawed.

having an engine behind the rear wheels is inherently wrong, and due to the advent of improved technology porsche have managed to control this.

I still think it is ultimately a capable car, but only because technology has allowed it to be.

Given the choice a 911 2.7rs is the only one which really stands out to me as one I aspire to own.

I think gordon murray had the right idea.

No compromises all out best car he could make, and he came up with a normally aspirated mid engine rear wheel drive mclaren F1.

A long way removed from the concept of the 911.

I wont take anything away from porsche, I have had enough of their patents sited against my clients to know that they know their technology. The car certainly looks great but as has been said, they have tried to kill it off 4 times.

The fact is it is cheaper to develop an existing platform further than it is to start again. No self respecting small car firm is going to remove their largest profit making model, it doesnt make economic sense, they are a business after all, and are not there just to keep their fans happy. Does no one remember the up road when they went down market and produced the boxster, which is incidentally a fine handling car oddly with its engine mounted ahead of the rear axle!

Thats why I give full credit to ferrari. Yes their cars are to some extent evolutions, but they keep getting it right, mid engine rear wheel drive is the way to go, even porsche accept this with their carrera GT, their own attempt to topple the worlds best super cars.

That said, I dont feel the contempt for porschw that other show on this thread. I admire their ability to rework a 50 year old volkswagen beetle and still sell as many as they can make at over 100k a shot!

Adam... the 460 minus guy has a few problems he is yet to resolve... don't waste your time defending me... though I thank you for at least having the wit to look from the side of things not just in contra-dictory terms...

I have never called the GT3 slow... but he will post that I have because he is a half-wit.
I have never said the GT3 was old looking... but he will post that I have because he is a half-wit.

He shows by that one post everything that is wrong with the average Supra owner.
------------------------------
To 460 directly:-

I feel very sorry for you mate, your first post in this thread and without any help from me you managed to look stupid... well done.

Did someone (or was that everyone) mention weight distribution?

Ferrari 360 43/57 F/R
McLaren F1 41.2/58.8 F/R
Porsche 911 Turbo 39/61 F/R
EVO 2003 60/40 F/R

My word that Beetle is fatally flawed indeed.

My goodness, we go and have some fun on the thread, nearly stay away from insults, and they crop up again on page 12!

What I cant understand, is how you say the car is flawed, its a fine road car, and keeps on winning at motorsport, how can that be flawed? Add to that superb build quality and engineering....and the fact you still see 10-15 year old 911's being driven around on a daily basis, including track days.

If thats a flaw, than great, many other cars, have much bigger flaws thats for sure.

Anyway, its all been said before, its Friday, and I'm drinking beer.

So Mooseracer, for the uneducated among us. Your figures, to my stupid(996 owner, please have pity), show that only the EVO is weight bias to the front....
Now I know its really a BMW but the F1 is probably(EVO's of course excepted) the best performance car available today. mmmmmmm...Professor mode on .
Can we conclude that it's better to be biased towards the rear(Mycroft do not get excited please).
Professor mode off.
What do those Formula 1 cars do......possibly weight bias to the rear with big fat tyres to deal with that...obviously idiots, they need an EVO out there not a Ferrari. .....FFS Evos driven by Donkey's(no thats not a historically correct quote, is it)

An engineer... how nice... tell me oh exulted one... why is just a weight distibution chart comparing the cars above not the whole story as far as weight distribution is concerned... that should be easy for someone who proclaims that:- ''the Porsche is simply one of the best engineered vehicles on sale today'' so why is that chart so faulted?

When i was talking about the Porsche being the best engineered vehicle today, i wasn't just talking about its drivetrain, engine etc, i was talking about the fact that when you shut the doors it does so with a thud, not a clang. Its interior is beautifully made, it has an amazing stereo as standard, lots of things that when rolled up together make an amazing vehicle.
As for engineer comment, i was simply pointing out that by having a more in depth knowledge of how to design a car, and the processes involved in doing so, i am moderately more qualified to comment of the engineering of a vehicle than average joe with an elevated opinion. You sound like you have a problem with Design Engineers, are you a line worker in a car factory?.......

No, never worked on a production line.

You know a bit about Auto design and function right?

so perhaps that question was a little too easy for you... so lets try another...

Just in the interest of seeing how such a vocal advocate of the Porsche marque arrives at his opinions...

The Porsche you have vaunted as a paragon of engineering has a Weissach 2 axle does it not?... how is that different from the Mercedes solution to the simplified lower wishbone arrangement that the swabians have just introduced?

Funny how the slef-proclaimed "engineers" log off as soon as a more interesting question is asked. Basic suspension design doesnt look like his type of thing LOL

Cammy, you dont speak German; which I normally wouldnt care about. However you have been living there for a while now, but you still dont know how to say basic things like "I'm drunk" which seems to be what you were trying to say. Anyway, whatever; as MAXI says, "those who know, know, those who dont know, wont ever know." Leck mich am Arsch du blöder Wixer Keine Ahnung von tuten und blasen, bloss 'n grosses Maul.

Adam M,

I think you've missed the point entirely. There's one thing stating opinion, if we weren't subjective then we've be devoid of character. The issue is the the intollerance to the opinion of others that makes it so painful to engage in discussion here.

Claudius can't seem to reply to a post without mortally offending someone in his wake - it's really quite pathetic.

Claudius,

I think Cem was making a point that the thread is resorting to cheap slanging.

He has respect for my reasons for being anti porsche even though he knows I think it is a beautiful car.

You have just proved a point by merely insulting rather than discussing. I am not attacking you, but I do know you have the ability to arue constructively rather than by simply hurling insults.

Mycroft,

I am not an automotive engineer, can you explain the missing point relating to the weight distribution that I cant figure out on my own please.
