Buying Alienware PC - help with choice please.
I am not interested in records based on machines that are overclocked to the absolute limit, dropped in liquid nitrogen etc. Mine does that 24/7 so I am perfectly happy.
Xp2200, 512mg crucial xms3500, asus mobo, saphire 9700 pro gets 14,500 on real 3d marks and 4992 3dmark 03, scored 11,000 with a 4200ti
I get 13,800 on default settings since I OC'd my XP2400+ with Crucial 9700Pro.
Since I put a Thermalright Heatsink & quiet 80mm fan on it,It runs 24/7 at 2.33Ghz (14 x 166) at a temp of 30c

I use Globalwin CAK4-88T heatsinks when overclocking 2400's or 2600's. Gets almost all of them like Daz's chip up XP2930+ levels (2430mhx if memory serves). Run warmer than the big thermalrights, but in most cases a dam sight quieter.

If you are using a decent quite fan then quiet possibly, but the Globalwin ones are actually quieter than the specs make out. Most people invest in SLK-800's and stick on loud, high cfm fans in an attempt to overclock every last few mhz out of their cpu, as I am sure you are aware m8.
Some of you will be interested to hear that I've since had to cancel my order with Alienware.
They certainly talk the talk, but they failed to walk the walk - after the umpteenth failed promise, I totally lost all trust in them - the last straw was when I CATEGORICALLY told them NOT to charge my card until they would confirm both order and delivery date. I was disgusted to find out my card had been charged over £2000.00 as soon as I put the phone down to them - despite a 3 week lead time!
Call after call, they broke so many promises I have since gone to another company, www.kustompcs.co.uk.
Oh my, what a refreshing change it is to speak with someone who:
1) Takes pride in his job
2) Understand the product he sells (I asked Alienware why the Audigy sound card was better than the Live to which she replied "It's better for games" - "Why?" I asked - "It just is." I MEAN WTF!?
3) Lived up to every single promise they made.
4) Offered to provide services beyond the call of duty.
5) Stopped me from buying components which they claim would be a waste of money.
They even told me to send my existing components to them so they would fit them for free! How cool is that?
Rock and roll for Kustom PC's and a big thumbs down for Alienware!

Nice fast stock system, i was put off rimm because it wont be much use in 6 months time. I stuck with DDR400. I reckon 13-14k with rimm

Not completely unrelated, but I have just had the photographer from Futurenet finish 4 hours worth of shooting my rig in detail and me in detail for the Pc Pro article that is being done on her. Bloody amazing what a decent photographer can do. Just a shame that I have to spend 4 hours in darkness on such a beautiful day.
Still chuckling over the fact that they are going to all of this trouble for a Pooter!LOL

Just got an email from the fab boys at Kustom PC's (what great folk).
They have just got a 3D Mark score on my set up - 15,900 points.
Im pretty chuffed with that, now they're gonna overclock it - let's see where that takes us
