Whilst on the subject, any Austin Ambassador or Princess is worth saving if going cheap ..... those 4-pot calipers alone are worth a nice few quid ..... for that reason alone a lot of otherwise good runners met an early demise from those wanting to upgrade their brakes. and .
I had both Princesses and Ambassadors ( updated Princess) as company cars many moons ago ..... still remember them fondly .... spacious, comfortable and fairly lively by 70s-80s standards. Nice torquey lumps (both B and particularly the O series ones) but the transverse six-cylinder Princess was one of the best "ordinary" cars I ever drove. A delight to drive ... or the one I drove was ...

When did you last see a 2.8 Capri? Olly ::::::
There's a Capri often visits in our road, dunno if its a 2.8 but it sounds like the tappits are on the way out or something more sinister.
What about Datsun Stanzas ? and I see I've been beaten to the Austin Princess, but what about the Montego ? was it , that used to drive the driver mad by telling him blatantly obvious things like he'd run out of petrol etc. Also the Fuego ! oh and the Austin Maxi.

"Matra Rancho "
LOL - My parents had one for taking multiple kids to school before "People carriers" were invented (it had ghastly rear-facing seats).
Quite the biggest pile of sh*te ever to be out on the road. A hopelessy ****e Talbot Horizon floor plan and mechanicals with a 4x4 wannabe body. Only great thing was the movable spot lights on the bonnet near the windscreen. You could move them round by leaning out the windows
Deano
Complete Bag of ****.

You do not see 3 wheeler cars around any more - Reliant Robin etc and those very odd bluish plastic things used by wheelchair users (trying to be pc there!). I assume 3 wheelers are still legal?

I have one of those .... being one of the first off the production line, it's older than my son who reckons it's real cool unlike modern "mamby pamby wheels" you can purchase nowadays ... Loves that digital dash and is trying all ways to fit one and the warning voice to his much later Rover ... can be done apparently.
Like many other fine British efforts, under-estimated from day one, particularly by many less well informed Brits. That's not just me saying that, for the years of its production no less an authority than the coloured car info pages in Autocar carried that info. Like the mature classy lady she is, when she lifts her skirts and runs she performs well ... much to the chagrin of lesser spec BMW owners Hey show some respect this is a new BMW ....
.... and by the way, it DOES NOT warn you you've run out of fuel, it does advise when the fuel level is getting low ..... just like the IDIOT warning lights on your wheels!! So there ....
Ever driven off clueless with one of your doors not properly shut? .... nice when a gentle voice tells you about that, or when the coolant or oil level is low .... no need to open the bonnet to check, it's done for you. No need for idiot lights but the info is there if you want it. Just press a button. But then, modern cars NEVER need their fluid levels checked do they? .... so many owners never bother ... check out some of the threads on Scoobynet and elsewhere to see how wise that practice is.....
I bought the car off a colleague last year who'd had it almost since new ... it was a demonstrator. I was disappointed to hear him tell me that it had over 140,000 reading on the digital dash. This was genuine, and a simple press of the convert button from Kilometres to Miles showed it's true mileage .... about 88,000!
The car being virtually one owner from new prior to my ownership so is in fine condition despite it's age. There are signs that the head gasket will need attention soon ..... but, I have plans to put a later Rover T16 turbo (ex-Tomcat)into it which I already have ...... and then wind up a few of the local Scooby types who are on the increase now that their prices are falling ... considerably like many other UK highly overpriced cars.(Says he with a new MGZS on order ... but I did get a 20% discount ... otherwise no deal .... ever .... The other half can drive that. Me? I'll stick with my Monty Turbos thank you very much ....
Drivers of modern cars ... don't know theyze born ...

405 mi16's - I've been trying to find a good one to save for ages, but the odd one that has come up for sale has been knackered.
Presumably they've all had the engine cut out and stuck in a 205 Max Power style.
What a shame....great car.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Rover SD1s. Comfiest car i've ever owned. It was an absolute joy to drive and wasn't lacking in grunt either.
Also, when was the last time you saw a Mk1 RX-7... the sexiest RX-7 of them all (especially with the factory bodykit like mine had )

The 1600 gti Scirocco.. The Mark I not the ugly Mark II.. That was a seriously quick car for it's size. Must've been a PTWR thing. It was feasible to get tailslide in that car despite FF configuration.. A dream, but forced off the road when VW wanted £540+vat for a set of fuel lines.. Back when I was 20 I just couldn't afford that.
