its not just middle lane users its outside lanes too. If theres noone in the middlelane friggin move to it. Every day the middle & inside lanes are empty for miles.
Theres laws in Europe that if someone is going faster they have to move over. On the whole driving in Europe is much faster but it seems much calmer cos everyone is driving at the same speed/more order. This country theyre all over the ******* place and dont give a ****.
I get flashed/beeped quite regularily(my bad driving) because they think im driving badly.(bad workman blaming ones tools...?)
But it ***** me off if they think ive hacked them up in the right hand land when they are in the right hand lane, the left lane is empty & they want to turn left????

Everyone seems to get very upset (as I do) with middle lane drivers...but has anyone ever actually asked someone why they do it?
I asked my sister once why she did it (she virtually enters the motorway, goes into the middle lane and doesn't leave until she arrives at her exit junction)...And she replied a)She'd never had any lessons about driving on the motorway and b)...It felt safer!

People do it cos they can see something slow like a lorry and they dont want to have to move out to overtake it. Which is fair enough bur it all goes pair-shaped when they are travelling at the same speed
When you overtake try & increase speed faster than the car your "overtaking" <shakes head>

The rule I use is, "if I can not pass the vehicle in lane 1 within 10 seconds, then I move back to lane 1".

Nimbus- sorry if you didn't like what Mr X did- I can tell you he told me far, far worse stories than that...like for example he was cut up by a London taxi driver who then gave him a V sign. My mate then deliberatly rear ended him at speed and sent him into the road furniture. I'm not condoning it but trying to point out that this kind of behaviour too easily turns into something potentially far far worse.
He also used to drink drive, take drugs and drive,drive without insurance etc etc. There are a lot of people like that on the roads. Watch out who you p1ss off is my advice.

When I used to Police the M4, my pet hate was those who hogged the centre lane. It often resulted in me reporting the driver for driving without due care and attention, specifically driving without reasonable consideration for other road users. Always secured a conviction, usually got a disqualification.

many drivers still refer to the slow, fast and overtaking lanes as they believe that is what it states in the Highway Code, when in fact it refers to the nearside lane (lane 1) and two overtaking lanes (lanes 2 and 3).

the offence of nearside overtake was actually removed from the statute books about 25 years ago, and is perfectly acceptable providing:

No danger is caused to other road users.
No other road user is required to alter course or speed.
The vehicle does not cross over or straddle a solid white line system.
It does not occur after a no overtaking sign.

Generally the Police will accept undertaking providing the above criteria is met and the speed of the undertaking vehicle does not exceed the passed vehicle by more than about 15 MPH.

If it goes pear shaped however, then the offence of Driving without due care comes into effect again.

However it can get ridiculous in Germany, I was in 3rd lane of 4 lane ABahn doing 220kmph and was indicated at to move in by a following driver to get out the way...mmmm, how fast do you need to go to be 'entitled' to be out there. The other issue is that if you go into the inside lane in the UK or Germany you invariably get caught behind HGV's and people are not always good at letting you out, so therefore it requires action from everyone to encourage people to use the inside lane. Once I get stuck 3 or 4 times then I'll just sit in middle lane. Just my viewpoint as a normally lane abiding driver.

For all I know he is locked up......he did lots of other stuff as well a very dodgy character and yes he was my mate so need for the " ". As I said earlier I'm not in any way condoning what he did- for all I know he was making the stories up. Having sat in the cab of his truck though I have to say that it's the most scared I've ever been.

IMHO most of the people complaining on this thread are exactly the reason the limits should be lowered.

Once they have learnt to drive more sensibly then put them back up again. Yes people who drive in a lane where they could move left into another thats clear are in the wrong, but the **** who is tailgating them, brakes testing them or any other such action is worse.

Would our roads be safer if we stayed at or below 70mph?

Edited to say that I have 6points on my licence for speeding (over a ton)and 400bhp sat in the garage.
