Focus RS

you really do talk the biggest load of ****e don't u mr cossie
i bought a golf because i know i can mod it without it falling apart 2 mins latter..... who told u the r32 handled like a barge it acually got 4 1/2 stars from evo - i think your getting a bit confused - the 4 motion and others on the platform are set up for comfort and safety and are easily tweaked by anybody who doesn't think all cars are perfect when they come out of the factory and have a bit of imagination - beleive it or not you can actually have a quaiffe LSD fitted to a golf and getting it tweaked to more than 220 bhp for alot less than an rs focus costs so why buy a focus for £22000

Banter's one thing, but some of this downright stupidity and/or snobbery. And coming from owners of Subaru: the farmer's favourite, that's quite something.

You obviously have never been in any the cars u like to slag off
you are just anti VW/audi by the sound of it.....
Everybody knows EVOS are fast, your kind of missing the whole point behind the GTI.....
Maybe you should check out the latest copy TOP GEAR the only thing bad they could say about the 4 motion they had as a long termer was they didn't like the WOOD in the interior.......

I've been in a lot of VAG cars - S3's, Golf GTI's etc - and have always felt un-inspired.
Sure they are fast in a straight line, but the suspension is usually underdamped. They feel heavy through corners - as if they do not want to turn due to the amount of inertia.
Not having driven one myself I can't comment on the lack of steering feedback, but just from sitting in the passenger seat I know I don't want to buy one.

I'd love to see a Focus RS up against the old king of FWD. The Integra type R. Unlike the civic it also has a trick front diff and has no problems dealing with 200bhp.(It doesn't have a whacking great turbo mind!)
I'm fairly sure it would give the FRS a good run for it's money on the road.

BHP isn't the whole story though is it? VAG cars weigh a ton and even the Golf R32 struggles to take on other cars in the class. The Focus and Impreza both beat it. On the other hand, the R32 sounds gorgeous and has those blue dials. Well worth a few grand extra.
Anyway, to answer the question about how the car handles in the snow - well, what do you think? On proper snow, it's fine. The tyres have amazing grip (and being new, lots of tread) anyway.
But on ice, it's a different story. Having those wide tyres makes driving rather "interesting", although I didn't have any serious incidents to worry about. You can feel the car sliding a bit on REALLY icy patches though IF you put your foot down a little too hard, accidentally.
I am not sure how 4WD would help on ice either, while we all know that ABS is a nightmare on ice too.
Would I put my foot down on ice if it was AWD? No. Would you? No.
At the end of the day, how many days do we get with ice and snow on the road? In countries that do have lots of snow, they fit winter tyres. When I'm in Sweden, I drive different cars and they're all fine with winter tyres, driving on some very dodgy roads. I'd put the tyres above the importance of FWD/RWD or AWD any day.

A bit of style? its a ford focus, style? um, yes.
I can appreciate what ford have done with this hot hatch, but fwd is quite restricting when it comes to modding, it sort of defeats the purpose of a turbo, ive never liked turbo fwd, as you have this easily moddable turbo engine, but who's going to put 280BHP through front wheels?
If you buy it as a hot hatch, and dont want to mod it, its a decent hot hatch, but I personally dont find a focus has a lot of style, just MHO.

Why do so many people slate cars because of the badge. Does it matter who made the car if its great ?
And why do people buy sh1te cars BMW 318, Audi TT, Golf Gti etc when they know they are utter rubbish but think the badge is worth 20k alone.
Why slag the RS because its a Ford when in reality it is a superb very well built and designed vehicle. Fools some people variety is the spice of life.

"Under devoped,**** poor build, ramdon overboost, hedge seeking missle, seats too HIGH and they are trying to overcharge at dealerships for it."
Under developed.. Hmm, 2 years.
**** poor build.. Care to offer some proof of this?
Random overboost? Not on any cars that went out to customers.
Hedge Seeking Missiles - well yes, if you can't drive properly and floor it on dodgy road surfaces. Other cars are more forgiving but this is more involving - and great fun with it.
It's never dangerous as you simply lift off for a fraction of a second and it all comes back into line. If the ST170 had done this, Ford would have had a problem. The RS is bought by people who, hopefully, have a little more experience.
Seats too high - Perhaps. I always had my seat quite high in the Escort and the Focus is much higher anyway (you have miles of headroom). Sit too low and you'd have the sort of space above your head you get in a VW Beetle!
Overcharging at dealerships? It's £20k - one price - one spec. If you think that's too high then so be it, but how can it be overpriced? Compared to what?
Is an Audi S3 overpriced compared to a Golf R32 to a Seat Leon Cupra to a Skoda RS? You charge what the market will bear, not what you think is reasonable. Ford have sold out, so I bet a lot of bean counters think it was actually too cheap!
And Side Show Bob, you say "but I personally dont find a focus has a lot of style, just MHO.". I wish you were right, as maybe I wouldn't keep coming back to my car with people hanging around it.
Came out of Pizza Hut in Enfield today and all the kitchen staff in the next door Old Orleans had come out to look. It's bloody embarrasing trying to get into your car when there are loads of people peering in the window. One woman said "gorgeous colour" and the guys were just drooling... The novelty wears off after a while. I bet people with the STi's get this all the time (they also look awesome in the equivalent metallic blue and with all the kit).

Come on VW Golf's are pretty sad cars.
The R32 is a dull as dishwater.
The Focus is a much better car than the Golf in standard 1.6 1.8 2,0 trim so what was the point of trying to make the totally naff 4 motion even naffer. It would be a good idea to start with the right building blocks in the first place then VW might be able to produce a car that goes round a corner.
Remember that pathetic twin engined Audi TT on top gear. Why oh why do people waste their time and money on cars that just will never perform due directly to the poor base they originate from .
Golfliam I bought an Evo so I could spank your bottom as I am into that sort of thing at the moment for some reason or other
