On a more positive note, all things considered, the MK2 MX5 is a bloody strong little car - I walked away from the accident, unfortunately the car was a write off.

I can't recommend them enough for dry weather use thou.

 

As mentioned I had a modified MK1.
The way it handles makes it an enthusiasts car. But it is percieved to be a girls/hairdressers cars.

I have to agree with Mr Evil totaly. And respect to the guys that do have fun in wet with them - I can imagine that could be v good fun.

I can not emphise how nice they are to drive near/on the limit (and this is coming from a dedicated Scooby man!). I find that the elise on the limit is more twitchy and less progressive!

Have to agree with Mr Evil also on safety. You do feel vunerable in them. However was approached by a girl in Brighton who saw mine parked up and approached me to show me a photograph of her's after she had fliped it. The front pillars are very strong on them and act as roll bars in a way...this saved her life.

I also had a rear tyre blow on me at about 95-100mph and I kept the car intact. This was because I knew what to do but also largely down to the fact that is a superb little car to control.

I would say get your girlfriend one. Only if she says she will drive it sensibly and be gentle with the controlls in the wet. If you think she wont... DONT. Or send her on a training course?

I know this is ancient, but I thought Steve Whitehorn might be interested to know that I had a rear tyre blow on my mk1 mx5 at 90mph on the motorway and controlled it. As to the wet weather handling, they are fantastic once you learn them, but they respond far better to delicate touches rather than ham fisted wheel twirling. Loads of fun in the wet becuase the grip limit is so much lower, so powerslides are dead easy.

 

I do get feeling u shud of at least reported it even if not stopping 2 give him kiss of life or owt But that aside i hear there is a good fuel surge thread going on the mazda boards lol

It was lucky you only realised he was racing you at the bend if your car was twitchy through it. If you'd have realised b4 the bend you might both have lost it to the Armco
