Stop being so naieve. The Porka AND P1 were trying it on. A car which is just over 1100Kg's and has 230BHP has a power to weight ration of over 200BHP / Tonne.

I was surprised too as this GT1 was all stripped out and kitted up, not to mention that i know a P1 is quick, Very quick. But at the end of the day, you dont believe. I have nothing to B/S about, yeah i like my Rover, only because its cheap in comparison and not far behind a scoob in the performance stakes.

We went upto the bloke in the P1 after (Not myself personally as i was getting out of the car) but the kid who did asked him what he was running in the P1, he replied with 1.5bar boost and approx 350bhp. He asked whats in the rover because he couldent believe he was overtaken.

Take it as you will, but at the end of the day we are all members of car forums because of our love of cars, not the Mine is better than yours attitude.

Pic of the offending Rover...

This thread is ace !!

Funny how some people cannot accept that a 'humble' Rover is capable of being quick.. and even rapid if tweaked properly.

Power to weight ratio is a major thing...

Funny how no-one doubts a Westy or Caterham with a Rover engine !?!

Steve220T,

Do you have any pics of these tuned beasts or any links to where I could have a look at some of them in action !?!

Cheers m8,

John

I only have the one movie, which ive uploaded (4.2MB) when the car wasnt running right, cant remember the reason now as this was a while ago, but since this vid, he has had the engine produce almost another 100BHP, Previously 330BHP, now 418BHP...

Dyno plot on www.an-racing.co.uk, done at Well Lane.

Best 1/4 was 12.2 @ 118mph with old spec engine.

Last year's TOTB, he was in the final, up against Rocket Ronny's skyline and lost, but in all fairness, did he stand a chance ?

Funny how the Rover forums never get 220 T vs Clio 172 or vs CTR threads.

I'm not naive, but you are deluded, if you think that a Rover 220 Turbo would stand a chance against a GT1! 200bhp per tonne is nothing. My old man has a Porsche 911 SSE and I have a Scoob turbo and he leaves me for dead! I managed to do 0-60 in 5.1 secs in my scoob with timing gear aswell. A GT1 is good for about 4.5 to 60 and on to 180mph+ where conditions permit. A bloke across the road to me has a yellow GT1 and it's the quickest thing I've been in, including a 640bhp Supra.

I think Jerry's opening words (3 posts up from yours) are very true.

Taken from:
http://www.syclone.freeserve.co.uk/rivals.htm

BHP: 457
0-30 1.5

Thumbs up

Great thread this, thanks for all the info.

Goto agree with you about some of the replies,When my mate said it'll keep up with ya scoob, you'll be surprised i said 'yeh dont think so' mate says have a read up and see, have done and they seem the ultimate bargain, all that power, low tranmission losses, nobody knows what they are and theres not many quicker cars out there.

Off to find one in a couple of weeks, cant wait to give it a good test drive, will have to as my mate is not used to turbo motas and currently drives an old bus.

Keep it coming

Cheers Paul

Sorry to clarify I bought my 220 low milage for 8K a good few years ago and px'd it for a Legacy Turbo. The alternator issue was apparently widespread. Between myself and 2 Rover owners we got though about 30 alternators. manufacturing fault apparently.

I've got no doubt that a well sorted 220 Turbo would give most cards a hard time. I would make sure its a later car as the earlier ones were prone to valve problems as stated on here.
