he wasnt trying to work out what car it is, he was trying to work out how an Impreza with a UK registration managed to keep up with him. I guess you had to be there, it was funny as ****. One of his passengers came over and said my car must be fast. LOL

I've not driven a 22B, but I do like the M3 E46 and I did like the E36 as well.

I would go for the 22b, but the 22b is a weekend car so difficult to compare. The 22b feels amazing and before I had this car I had a P1 Ferrari 355 BMW M5 and they felt slow in comparison. My sister has a Porsche 996 C4 and it feels slow and lacks feel compared to the 22b.

I cannot see an M3 matching the raw power, noise and feel of a 22b.

I think I like the idea that it would be very unlucky to see another 22b, were as an M3 you are just one of the crowd!

A GT3 Is a stripped out racing version of a new water cooled 911 carrera. High lift cams lots of weight removed optional roll cage fitted light weight reccaros. About as quick as a new 911 TURBO but less lag. Normally aspirated v quick. One off the best track cars to buy. About 85K new 2 years ago and still fetching big bucks now 60k+. I would always go for either 964RS or 964GT2 (both 911's) last of the air cooled. but i have the New M3 not stripped out, aircon> the bussiness!
Thanks to Mmmmm for the GT3 vs M3 I've got 60% so far, Great

dont even know if a time has ever been set for the 22B?
Oh yes there has

A very, very sloooooooow one by me

Can't see why on earth everyone considers the 22B not to be a daily driver.. Mine (jap spec) has been for most of it's life and it's just fine on UK roads.

The only issue is the amount of petrol it drinks.. It can snort the stuff quicker than a coke addict getting freebies

Phil Gardener Ring Instructor took myself and 3 other passengers for a couple of laps of Nurburg ring. He said the time was one of his top 3 laps and that was with the track slightly damp in places under the trees.

Despite 4 up the 22B performance was better than his standard Sti.

He was impressed by the brakes from EC parts and Leda suspension and so bought them for himself. This was before the Scoobysport brake cracking problem was identified and the Leda rattling and knocking disasters

When John and I go back later this year I am sure he will set some new benchmark for him and maybe a few others

The only M5s that I have encountered, that have been quicker than my 22B have been in Straight lines on Autobahns and the ring taxis

If the BMW M3 engine is the best 6 cylinder of all time, why is there a whole forum/archive dedicated to its engine faliure on the E46 model....??? surly reliability is an important factor..

Dan, don't be silly, remember the no 3 piston on MY98 Scoobs ?

Unfortunately there a gremlins in all marques, the BM problem was simply within a 7 week build period and to do with an oil feed pipe which has now thankfully been rectified.

Regards

Chris

Phil Gardner still runs his STi there. He now has AP 4pots (310mm version) and a BRG tuned engine running about 330BHP, he still uses the Leda's and runs on Yokohama R spec tyres.

Last trip but one Phil was after coming for a run with me when he saw the laptimes i was doing in a standard engined, tyred, STi5 RA. I was 5 seconds slower than him we thought, it was hard to be acurate because the T13 section had the bypass road in, but that was our guestimate. It P'd it down before we had a chance to do a run together. Phil is a top bloke.

Thanks Mikey, wait untill you see the VHS version of that footage, it should be pretty impresive stuff.

All im saying is should you expect problems like that on a car that cost near £45-50K new...??? especially such a simple problem with massive implications from the great BMW

Dont get me wrong they are an amazing car..! but if they can make such a stupid mistake like that then whats to say they wont again...

Lol.....

Having had every denomination of scoob under the sun....from std to trick....you can't even compare the two cars....

Unless you've owned both your in ignorant bliss (Chris )

However, I'll still pass any scoob around on track in my STANDARD M3 !!!

I find that rule of thumb applies well to women as well as cars...
If not done sequentially variety could end you life as well though

M3 a rep car!!!! Is this guy for real??

The M3 (IMHO) is a far better car than a 22B - it looks graet, is comfortable has has exceptional build quality.

It is, as any motoring journalist will tell you, one of best cars you can buy for the money - you could only get a oldish 996 2WD for the same price.

As for the exhasue note - it is very tinny on new cars - this sound does improve as you get some miles on. Past 5000rpm it sounds fantastic!

Just out of interest - the guys that have slated the M3 - how many of you have actually driven it?

No, i haven't. Have you ever been in a GTR at full bore? The M3 and the GTR engine are both excellent in their own special ways, can we agree on that. I absolutely love the M3, it is a beautiful car, but you can't go past those 1000hp+ skylines coming out of japan....

WRX SEE just showing it cuts both ways, never owned one but been in one a not a bad piece of kit for 40K . If you look back all my comments have been tongue in cheek, humour . Something which is sadly in short supply after the christmas merryment .

The only serious comment was about the 996 a superb peice of kit and I would have one over an M3 anyday you would be mad not too. Then again as someone pointed out a 996 is a lot more than price of an M3 just like an M3 is more than twice the price of a WRX .

It depends what you want and how much you want to spend and where you think you are getting value for money.
